Song of the Day II

Do you remember when we used to tag songs? How did it work? I have the code still but not busting out the laptop.
[song: young lust] something like this? best guess
Yes. Those threads are still here. Good times!

I did.
  • She's had a little work since then, but she can afford it. ;)
  • SCTV was simply the best.
Yes, loved SCTV. Great cast & guests. Surprised Southside didn't have an acting career after that performance!

Reminded me of this. It's pretty well known that The Beach Boys (Brian Wilson) were greatly influenced by these guys.

No doubt. They even covered that song early on.

This one is speculated to be about Chris Cornell. Or Eddie’s bro Chris, or potentially both. Either way, I like it.

This is fascinating. Not a lot of time for her to catch her breath during this song.

Another Springsteen song made more popular by someone else, along the lines of Blinded By The Light and Pink Cadillac.

Bruce didn't have a fully-formed song and gave it to Patti Smith, who then completed the lyrics and recorded her iconic version. So this was really a team effort, even if they didn't sit down together to create it.

Yup. When you hear Bruce perform it, he uses his lyrics which are slightly different than Patti's.

Honestly, hers are better.

It's all good. Two legends by any measure.
I've seen Bruce perform it many times. And it was great.

I also saw Patti perform it at the Carnegie Hall tribute to Bruce. Fabulous! Some great performers that night (Odetta, in a wheelchair, was awesome):

Nebraska – Steve Earle
Streets of Philadelphia – The Bacon Brothers
Streets of Fire – Elysian Fields
The River – Josh Ritter
Because the Night – Patti Smith
The Rising – Marah
My City of Ruins – Holmes Brothers with the Young People's Chorus of New York City
Brilliant Disguise – Robin Holcomb
Jersey Girl – Jersey Guys with Bobby Valli
Spirit in the Night – North Mississippi All-Stars
New York City Serenade – Uri Caine
Cover Me – Juliana Hatfield
One Step Up – Low Stars
Thunder Road – Badly Drawn Boy
Born in the U.S.A. – Joseph Arthur
Dancing in the Dark – Pete Yorn
Hungry Heart – Jesse Malin with Ronnie Spector
I'm Goin' Down – M. Ward
57 Channels – Odetta
Atlantic City – The Hold Steady
The Promised Land – Bruce
Rosalita – Bruce
Rosalita – Bruce with all performers

Sorry for the thread derail.

Awesome, that must have been something to see!

And you can't derail a thread that has no point. ;)
