I expected that the school would have Red travel back with the team, and the next day meet with him and then announce a change. That's the respectful way to do it for someone who is an Orange through and through.

I also think JW and he already had the talk last week, so this is just a formality at this point, and JW doesn't even need to be there in person really.

And, I don't know, he was a member of the coaching staff for fifteen goddamn years. During that time we played in two Final Fours. Whether you think he's a legend or great or good or fine or the worst thing since my high school crush removed me from her top 8 on Myspace is of no consequence.

I think it's an interesting question: who should make the call. It seems Wildhack is going to fire him. Is that the best possible decision? Should it be the incoming AD? I tend to think not, but there's an argument that the incoming guy should make such a big decision. On the other hand, any decision like this takes political capital.

I don't think a presser is necessary. JW is out of town, Red said he expects to talk to "the school" tomorrow so no announcement will come tonight, I think just a Red JW phone call since JW is out of town so tomorrow is just Red doing an exit interview with HR I am thinking and end with a press release (prepared weeks ago no doubt) thanking Red.

This clears the table for the new AD appointment.

The rest of Red's staff will most likely leave as new HC will have his own staff.

As far as players entering the portal in the past a player can enter the portal the day after a head coach change is announced with a 30 day window. The new rule is a player can enter the portal 5 days after a new coach is hired so that gives the new HC 5 days to keep those he wants to keep.

So the event after the AD appointment is a moving date. If it's Hop they will announce quickly and get things moving, if it's someone else with a team in NIT or NCAA you have to wait till they play their last game.
