Stanford fires Coach Taylor

What I find interesting is that GM Andrew Luck put out the statement, not the AD

I think that's a first for a GM in college to announce a firing. Not sure if it was primarily Luck's decision.

Makes you realize who will most likely be in charge of hiring the new head coach as well, plenty of worse people to do the hiring.

I guess it makes sense, get a football guy in to make football decisions.

You used to see Football coaches as ADs I think George Perles at Michigan St was the last of his kind as the AD role has transitioned to more Marketing and fundraising. Something SU should consider. And keep the BOT away from these decisions.

So, do players in the 2025 class who signed LOI's get to leave?

I ask b/c Stanford recruited a surprising number of players from the east coast, at least two of whom we offered and I think that Fran might still be interested in.

Specifically:

and

I believe they do, yes, anytime a coach leaves for whatever reason, a kid has I believe 30 days to go into the portal

Pretty sure Andrew Luck was announced to have full power over the football program when he was announced GM. Maybe I am dreaming that. But that sounds familiar to me.

I just confirmed he does. He reports directly to the school president. He is essentially the AD when it comes to football

Correct. I remember that when he was announced also. I think he is the only one with that kind of power in college at this point.

Emmett Mosely would be a great addition to our WR room

Do we have a chance to pull a player with roots in California? I think if he were to consider leaving Stanford he might give ND a look. His dad played football at ND and his mother played soccer at ND.

We might have a better chance to pull an incoming freshman from Indiana who hasn't started classes at Stanford yet. I'm talking about JonAnthony Hall, WR (6-1, 170).

With our numbers being what they are, I know we would have to clear room for him on the roster. I can think of two WR's currently in camp who I would let go just to get this one.

The other player I would take a run at is Josh Williams, OL (6-4, 300) from the Haverford School (just outside of Philly). Do we have any coaches with connections to high schools in Philly?

We are closer to home for both of these players.

While we may not be Standford academically, we aren't bad.

And our football program isn't a mess like Stanford's.

I whole heartedly agree. Try it out see if they are interested.

The point here is that "in this life you get what you give". The ex-coach is an ass, and he got what he gave. Good for the people he attacked, for Stanford and Andrew Luck.

Hmmm... I wonder if a position like this could be created for a different revenue sport as well.

With our coaches and our offense we have a chance with anyone.

Not sure we need to a flyer on kids that are unknown quantities as they may not even be as good as our own unknown incoming players at WR. Our WR room isn't too shabby right now but Mosley certainly looked the part, in an offense that could barely pass, once they gave him some run.

Yes we have at least one coach with Philly ties... Fran Brown. It's how we found Julian McFadden before the rest of the world. Not sure on Bredell or Stewart but Fran for sure got tipped off to Julian from Philly connections.

I know almost everybody here knows this, but I had no idea until Fran Brown was hired.

Camden NJ is much more a suburb of Philadelphia than New York.

Google maps has Camden a 16 minute drive from Philly, and 1 hour 40 from NY.

Yep, Eastern PA and NJ (aside from very North NJ) are pretty much one in the same. You'll find more Eagles, Phillies and Flyers flags in Central and South NJ than any other teams.

The training facility and corporate offices for the 76ers are in Camden, NJ. With a little skill, you might be able to skip a rock across the Delaware River from their facility and have it land in Philly.
