Class of 2015 Stephen Thompson, Jr.

Whether you feel that's the case, there is no denying that he has done a good job turning Harvard into an Ivy league power and they did win one more game than Yukon in the tourney last season.;)
Same as at Michigan--he can recruit well but doesn't know how to manage a game when the players get there. It is easier to get away with it in the Ivy League.

But can he shoot free throws and jump like the old man?

Hopefully the answers to that are no and yes, in that order.

Stevie, we loved you, but man, you could put someone's eye out with those free throws.

Which is both true and odd. I rebounded for him in Archbold when he was getting ready for the NBA. He would make one after another and his form was even better in practice. In games, he turned into an alter ego of himself...

One day at the Dome Thompson took 100 free throws and made over 90 with a shot doctor standing there watching. His form was perfect.

The next night in the game his shooting elbow kept flying out and he flicked up clang after clang.

Stephen Thompson became a Syracuse basketball legend for his high-flying attacks to the rim. He didn't have the greatest outside shooting touch, but constantly soaring toward the basket helped him rank second behind Bill Walton in all-time NCAA tournament shooting percentage at .684.

After a short stint in the NBA with Sacramento and Orlando, Thompson played pro ball in Europe and Japan before settling back in his hometown of Los Angeles. He has been head coach at Cal-State Los Angeles since 2005, and his sons Stephen Jr., a junior, and Ethan, a freshman, led Bishop Montgomery of Torrance to the Division IV state championship this season. His sons say they wish they had some of their dad's signature leaping ability, but Stephen says they are already better shooters than he was. As recruiters have begun to take notice of them, Thompson is just as proud of his sons' academic standing, which will expand their options when considering college offers. Here is more of their story:

I don't follow recruiting closely, but does anyone know if we're still recruiting Stevie the Younger? (And if not, why?)

I have thought all along that Stevie Jr. sounds like a great recruit to bolster backcourt depth. Might not start [not saying that he won't], but could be a good bench guy. Also has some point guard skills.

I got the impression that he was leaning toward Harvard or Vanderbilt, where he could get more PT and play a bigger role.

#32 stevie thompson while undoubtably a great finisher was also arguably our best wing defender ever. just ask JT2.

No surprise here as Stevie Jr made it official to join his Pops at Oregon St yesterday.
Good for him, they have a few solid recruits coming up there, hopefully they see some success in a top heavy Pac-12.

Oregon State freshman guard Stephen Thompson Jr. said the key to his success last week was his ability “to remain positive and stay confident.”
Thompson Jr. averaged 13.5 points in victories against Utah and Colorado and was 8 of 14 from the field (57.1 percent). He was especially clutch at the free throw line, hitting 9 of 10 in the two games.

In the 71-69 victory over Utah on Feb. 4, Thompson Jr. was fouled on a half-court heave at the buzzer with the Beavers trailing 69-68. He calmly sank three free throws with 0.1 seconds to give OSU a much-needed victory at Gill Coliseum.

In Saturday's 64-60 victory over Colorado, Thompson scored eight of his 14 points in the final eight minutes.

Has his dad's foul shooting ability. ;)
