Steve Angeli: Torn Achilles

Hmmm. Really hoping he heals. Maybe he's just used to favoring it and his hitch is more of a practiced gait, than something that really requires a light step to prevent it from getting re-injured.
Who knows. The success of the season may hinge on his heel.

I'm not concerned yet but obviously if he's not a full-go for summer lifting/conditioning that will be a huge issue.
I have seen a video of him working out this winter with the team? It’s where Fran is talking to him while he lifts some weight with his legs.

The bionics can take up to 8 months to be fully functional.

Still looks a little gimpy to me...
Whether it is just residual stiffness or if he is still in pain is important. He might be able to play through both or neither. Either might affect his ability to play at a high level.

It might be an injury he feels for the rest of his life. I still feel my 35 year old ACL and MCL injuries a lot of days. I can't imagine an Achilles is any more forgiving. I had about 20 other injuries I don't remember because they healed completely.

The hope is Angeli's recovery will be complete enough to allow him to play at his previous level and eventually even forget about.

Fran says things. How those backups doing?
they're real. and they're spectacular. I know we joke about deep QB room comments...so folks will have to see it to believe it...but we invested heavily and the quality difference is very apparent to everyone around the program. Folks were NOT saying that last year after watching Ricky in practice.

I think folks will be pleasantly surprised by a lot of the transfers, too (e.g. Cole Weaver, the Toledo LB and others).

Toughest part is breaking thru scar tissue. It rebuilds for up to a year. That’s the part that hurts.
There's so much to it. I think early days many expected Steve to be way ahead of things because he's a 20 y/o D1 athlete and a mental Goliath. The injury itself, the procedure, the post op PT, the scar tissue, the atrophy and the mental post full recovery are all time consuming endeavors.

Even the most prime physical recovery demographic (which Steve is) will have massive mental hurdles. How many times will he have to plant on it before he trusts it once recovered? How many times after that will it take to not even think about it when planting? What happens the first time he gets hit or rolled up on? What happens if/when opponents target it?

Selfishly I hope he's back good as new on the feild. Realistically I just hope he recovers and isn't hindered by it in daily life. It's gotta be pretty traumatic to have the biggest tendon in the body and calf muscle ball up like a fruit roll up after all.

Love to hear this. Far too many get caught up in big names and $$$$$ that goes with them. We took some flyers on some former highly rated HS recruits this cycle as well BUT look much better on the lessor known names with actual on field tape post HS. Roster certainly looks more complete and competitive than it did this time last year vs just hanging our hats on a handful of stars carrying the team.

There's also an attitude and energy that comes from some of those kids too. I've said it before but we were missing leadership on this team once Steve went down. The LB from Toledo is someone we didnt have on d last year. a vocal leader with an edge. He also knows the defense in and out. He's going to be a fan favorite. He's built to play in Syracuse. Him and Antoine together are going to be a LOT of fun to watch.

agree. the mental part is real. he's just starting to plant on that back foot. of course he's going to be limping. he's putting in rehab every day and fighting through different milestones. He's in as good of a spot as we could hope for right now in mid March.

The good news is we have competent back ups if he's not ready. I suspect he will be based on where he is now.

He's got two years of eligibility, right?
