Steve Angeli: Torn Achilles

For those who are our board doctors and surgeons. How long from surgery is the typical recovery for a player being able to fully practice again? Are there potential issues with a repair that could impair the timeline? Is the player susceptible to Achilles injury again any more so than before?
Recovery for athletes post surgery to fully practice is typically 9-12 months. Potential post surgical risks that could delay healing : Infection and nerve damage. Susceptibility to re-tearing the repaired achilles tendon is low for surgical repair: 3-5%. There is always the potential for a decrease in athletic performance post achilles injuries especially in the areas of explosive movements. The quality of the rehabilitation program is critical to the post surgical results relative to the time frame for complete return to athletic competition.

Good question, I can take this one.

He probably won't be able to resume most football like activities for some 6-9 months.

Unless he opts to get a peg leg as a treatment plan.

In that case, he'd be ready to go after the bye week.

It would be nearly impossible for him to sustain the same injury on a peg leg.
Forget the peg leg...

Thanks for the info!

Not that this really matters right now, but this definitely throws a wrench into the future QB succession plan for the next few years. For me the way Steve was playing this season and especially against Clemson, it was his job next year for a run at the ACC title and then Carney taking over (or another transfer if for whatever reason he wasn't ready). Now things get pretty complicated if Angeli gets a medical redshirt. Would he be 100% for next year? Depending on how Rickie plays is he in the mix? Rickie getting and keeping the job for 2 additional years would almost certainly leave Carney on the outside possibly transferring. Again doesn't mean much now and a ton can change obviously, but its an interesting situation. Damnit I feel for Angeli, he was finding his groove

I think we may actually have a chance to win the ACC and make a run for it all next year
I think we have a chance to win the ACC this year, esp so if Steve Angeli was still playing. Remember, we are undefeated in the ACC right now.

Last year it wasn't until the Cal game that everything started clicking for SU. This year it started clicking yesterday. No reason we can't hang with Miami. And ND is not a league game.

According to a friend, who is an orthopedic surgeon, a pre-existing knee injury can many times precipitate an achilles injury because the knees and the achilles tendon are part of the same kinetic chain. the knee injury doesn't cause the achilles injury, but it can indirectly increase the vulnerability of the achilles due to how th body compensates, leading to altered biomechanics, muscle imbalances, and reduced flexibility. If you notice, Angelli had a left knee brace on... Whatever the cause, it is sad news for Steve and the cuse!!!
Steve was noticeably gimpy on that leg after the injury to it on the first drive. I can't imagine sitting around for the 96 minute delay and then going all out to play on it more helped things.

I love King Crimson have seen them about 6 or 7 times a favorite band
In the court of the Crimson King is one of the greatest albums of all time... Pure Psychedelic, proggy bliss. Any recommendations for other albums I should dive into? I have that one on vinyl but somehow haven't taken the time to explore the rest of their catalog

That’s what I said yesterday! Glad I’m not crazy…

Najee Harris of the Chargers also just blew his out in a non-contract injury ... crazy.
