Steve Angeli: Torn Achilles

Sorry but this is the latest information I can find. I am anxious to see Steve return and lead this team. I wish could visit and actually see if he is throwing at this point. I have no subscription to syracuse.com so I have no idea what they said on 1/22/26. Doing the best I can.

As of early 2026, reports indicate that Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli is expected to return and be the starting quarterback for the 2026 season following his September 2025 Achilles tendon injury.
Here is the latest, as of early 2026:
  • Positive Progress: By late 2025, Angeli was reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation, with goals of participating in some capacity during spring practice.
  • 2026 Outlook: Head Coach Fran Brown has been firm that Angeli will be the team's starting quarterback for the 2026 season.
  • Medical Redshirt: Due to the injury occurring in the fourth game of the 2025 season, Angeli was expected to be approved for a medical redshirt, giving him two years of remaining eligibility.
  • Role in 2026: Angeli is expected to anchor a revamped Syracuse offense and is actively involved in team leadership, having expressed a desire to help in recruiting while recovering.

Update on Angeli from ESPN:

As of early March 2026, Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli is not expected to participate in spring practices as he continues his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon suffered in September 2025.

While earlier reports in late 2025 indicated he was rehabbing well and hoped to be ready for spring ball, recent updates from March 2026 suggest he is still in the recovery process, with the team looking at other quarterbacks during the spring.

Key Details on Angeli's Status (March 2026):
  • No Spring Action: ESPN's Bill Connelly noted that we "won't see Angeli this spring," with coaches evaluating other options while he rehabs.
  • Injury Background: Angeli tore his Achilles during a win against Clemson in September 2025, which ended his season prematurely.
  • 2026 Outlook: Despite the missed time, he is expected to return as the starting quarterback for the 2026 season.
  • Recovery Progress: As of late November 2025, he was off crutches, in a walking boot, and indicated he was ahead of schedule in his rehab.

While he is not throwing in live team sessions yet this spring, he is expected to be fully healthy for training camp in the summer of 2026.
