Good post Marsh agree 100% on Vermont, was really hoping to avoid them in 05 and sure enough the committe stuck us with them. I think the reason some are giving Ashville a look as an upset are the reason you outlined for Vermont in 05. Senior laden team, prior Tourney experience, played several top D1 teams during the season. Now im not trying to say Ashville is on the level of Vermont in 05 but there are some similarities. Either way JB should play tape of the Richmond and Vermont games today and that should be all the reminder they need.
Ashe is 249th in 3 pt. shooting in the country and 241st in turnovers. Bad recipe for them
Plus they run run run. Not a great matchup for them.

I have not seen the point spread for any of the games, but I will go out on a limb and say that the final score spread will be the lowest of all the 1 - 16 games. I'm not being disparaging, just that SU doesn't seem to win the hugh difference than other games have.

prior to the BET that year we were a 5-6 seed. The run helped.Every projection I saw was us as a 3-4 seed.
or not hot chicksSteve Philips is a colossal dipshit.
I hope he continues to pick against us all tournament. College basketball really is not his forte.
For the record, neither is picking up hot chicks, apparently.
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant the final score difference. I have condfidnece that SU will win but if people judge them by the final score, they usually look "bad" Every year during the first round, SU seems to win by the smallest margin of those seeded the same as them or higher.Kentucky and UNC spreads won't come out until the play-in games are done, but the Syracuse game will in fact be the lowest spread at -17. Mich St. spread is already -20 and the Kentucky and UNC spreads will be at least that.

Being from the binghamton area and being in school at the time...all the local TV stations talked plenty about coppenrath and sorrentine for 4 years, so the sure didn't sneak up on the southern tierVermont was mis-seeded and should have been an 11 seed that year. They had a 21 RPI that year (people can go look it up if they dont believe me) and were given a 13 seed. Why they were bumped to a 13 I have no idea. That team had played in the NCAA's before and were all upperclassmen. That gme was basically a 5-12 or a 5-11 game as opposed to a 4-13. People don't realize this. Throw them playing in freaking Worcester besides. Not excusing the loss but that was the best 13 seed in NCAA history.
Plus...no players over 6'5" see significant time. We'll see Brandon Reece and the boys on Thursday.Plus they run run run. Not a great matchup for them.
Apples and Oranges. 16 vs 1 seed should never be discussed as a possible upset. How about we just win and give them something to talk about after the game rather than get all stoked up about what a few idiots say prior to the game.
We have had our fair share of What's to make us a legitimate target of this type of commentary. We can make all of the excuses we want about someone being hot, a bad matchup, overseeded underseeded...bottom line is that we should have beaten Charlotte, W. Kentucky, Penn, Navy, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Richmond, Alabama, Vermont, Marquette......
Look you can't win them all, but we've certainly lost more than we should have to teams that we should have beaten. I'll even give them a pass for the losses to Texas A&M (we weren't that good and GMAC was hurt) and Butler (because AO was out).
There is no pass for the Vermont game in my book. We should have beaten them. We had a legitimate Wooden Award candidate and one of the most clutch players in program history and we shat the bed. We should win games like that.

I don't think any credible analyst or prognosticator should discuss it because its almost beyond the realm of possibility, but then again the 15 over a 2 was beyond the realm of possibility for a long time too. Given that we paved the way to that being a reality we should expect a certain amount of folks suggesting we'll be the first 1 to go down as well.
I hear ya. The fact that the 2-15 happened 3 times after shows people it can be done. a 1-16 upset will never happen. Ever.
Geeeezzz.....If the unspeakable happens now....I'm coming to your house and ripping your satellite dish off the roof, dumping out all of your Utica Club and painting your man cave Pink.
