Steve Phillips just picked UNC-Ashe...

The disparity between 15 seeds and 16 seeds is a lot greater than people realize. Might be the biggest seed gap in the tourney.

As a side note, I'm glad we don't face a play-in game... one of my peeves is that the top seed plays the play-in. 16 seeds are often so unpredictable because they never play big conference teams, so allowing them a play-in game to basically sift out the horrible 16 seed and leave the decent 16 seed doesn't really do the 1 seed any favors... it just assures that they will play a respectable 16 seed.

Funny... UK only won 4 games against tournament teams away from home too (Vanderbilt, Miss. St., Florida x2), and that's only if you count the SEC tournament. And their first one didn't come until Feb. 11th. But you won't hear that anywhere else.

...and if we're counting conference tourneys, SU has 5 to UK's 4.

Vermont was mis-seeded and should have been an 11 seed that year. They had a 21 RPI that year (people can go look it up if they dont believe me) and were given a 13 seed. Why they were bumped to a 13 I have no idea. That team had played in the NCAA's before and were all upperclassmen. That gme was basically a 5-12 or a 5-11 game as opposed to a 4-13. People don't realize this. Throw them playing in freaking Worcester besides. Not excusing the loss but that was the best 13 seed in NCAA history.

SU was also underseeded as a 4.

I would say you can't count tourney games so

top seeds wins vs. tourney teams on the road:

UK - 2
Cuse - 4
UNC -4 - one being UNCA
MSU - 4
Mizzou -3
Duke - 2
KU - 3
OSU - 2
Baylor - 3
Marquette - 3
FSU - 3

does anyone do any research anymore?

What's a Steve Phillips?

Per that Fox Sports Article...people like the internet because they can just make stuff up...

Oh well, guess that one didn't count.
Everybody knows Syracuse never leaves the cozy confines of NY, never goes on the road, and that the NC State game was essentially a home game. Besides, how can you make a meaningless point if you throw in some undisputable facts.

How about we just win and give them something to talk about after the game rather than get all stoked up about what a few idiots say prior to the game.

We have had our fair share of What's to make us a legitimate target of this type of commentary. We can make all of the excuses we want about someone being hot, a bad matchup, overseeded underseeded...bottom line is that we should have beaten Charlotte, W. Kentucky, Penn, Navy, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Richmond, Alabama, Vermont, Marquette......

Look you can't win them all, but we've certainly lost more than we should have to teams that we should have beaten. I'll even give them a pass for the losses to Texas A&M (we weren't that good and GMAC was hurt) and Butler (because AO was out).

There is no pass for the Vermont game in my book. We should have beaten them. We had a legitimate Wooden Award candidate and one of the most clutch players in program history and we shat the bed. We should win games like that.

All good points, and unfortunately one of the very few blemishes on JB's outstanding record here at Cuse, we have definitely underachieved in the tourney some years.

They did beat Kansas early in the year at the garden.

Is that still true though? Because of the play in games, don't we know have 2 teams that would;ve been 15 seeds who are now 16 seeds?

He who must not be named actually picked us to the FF on ESPN radio this afternoon. Thank goodness I was at a stop light or I may have crashed my car.

This is all you need to know about Steve Phillips's judgement:

He picked the one on the left over the one on the right.

He picked the one on the left over the one on the right.
Actually, he tried to have both. One for home and one for the road. The one for the road didn't want to share... and then *boom* went the dynamite.

He's not picking an upset.
He's pointing out some truths.
It's a pretty good column.

I would quarrel with him on one thing.
He says we're not as good as our record indicates.
Unlike many other of our highly touted teams...with this team what you see is exactly what you'll get.
We've got a big flaw - practically the worst team in the country at allowing offensive rebounds.
But we compensate.
We have no huge star.
Just a real team.
That found a way to win 31 out of 33 times.
Only 6 more to go.
