We definitely played against a higher caliber athlete yesterday. Know how I know? They actually were able to get Tucker to stop moving forward when they tackled him.

This is the best offensive line we've had since 2012. I think by season's end it could be better than that one.

We really need to let Shrader throw. If that means the staff feels more comfortable getting him rolling out that's fine. But even if he throws some bad balls it's fine, take it. That said, I'm not sure which pass is scarier, Shrader's lofted screens or Dungey's old shovel pass.

I don't think Tucker ever got a break yesterday. He and Shrader were the only guys with carries. That's not sustainable. We have guys in Adams and Lutz that can share the load. Need to leverage the depth better.

Chestnut... he's young and learning but man he does stuff that's special.

I've accepted that Andre is an ok kicker but basically he had a season where everything went right in an unprecedented way and was rewarded with a scholly and a Groza, and that's the story.

I think yesterday was the Courtney Jackson breakout game. Would love to see him build off of that.

We need to make a bowl. Not just because our schedule is full of a bunch of middling teams, but because we need to reward the guys like Kingsley, Bear, Cody and Josh that all can back and made the defense solid (along with the other guys that came back for another year).

I don't know if we've seen the last of Taj, but it's going to be stupidly ironic if after years of showing up his QB in DeVito he moves on because he refused to adapt to a different QB.

There's probably other stuff. I don't know.

I'm thinking if we add a TE that is a threat to this offense it becomes that much better.. Great Elmore can block but you need the D to at least acct for the TE on some play since with Shrader moving around there will be holes to exploit. Benson would be tough to handle in this style.

didnt Gadson make a catch yesterday?

really thought Jackson made plays yesterday.. Show some acceleration after the catch..

Need that deep shot 2-3 times a game off the play action and rollouts.

Shrader needs more timing throws since he doesnt have the high heat throws but he showed way more in game 2.. lets hope game 3 is even better

I agree we need to roll out a bit more of the 2nd RBs.. maybe start a series with Adams and sub Tucker in after 4-5 plays.

  • Why did it take 6 quarters for Sterlin Gilbert to figure out how to call a game for Shrader?
  • Is there an opportunity to get Tucker some plays off with Abdul or even Lutz, especially in obvious passing situations?
  • Can Mang be put in more situations to take advantage of his size in the passing game? A Shrader rollout with Mang in eyesight gives a natural blocker if Shrader runs it, but also a size advantage if there’s a one on one on Mang.
  • Defensively, the DL is getting good pressure, but why isn’t a delayed blitz used more? A LB read to bring pressure opposite the line push would help keep scrambling at bay more.

Totally agree with this. Bad chemistry on this team to go 1-10 last year. Injuries is just an excuse. This whole team quit on the coaches last year. That was rock bottom. New guys need to emerge.

But you're right that those DLs all coming back has been a key to what we hope will be a bowl year. Our defense is pretty good.

If they let Shrader throw more, he will get better. Rolling out suits him really well. It's always a run-pass option when you roll the pocket for him. And he's shown that he can pick out that 10-20 yard target, especially over the middle. He extends plays more often than not.

I think what happens next is teams are going to see he’s effective rolling to his right and they’re going to attack that. So my question is, how long will it take Gilbert to adapt to that. It’s going to happen in the next game, let’s hope he’s already game planning for it.

Yep. This is where good coaches earn their money.

Tucker did get some breaks. There were a few times the commentators mentioned he wasn't in the game. I think those were all pass plays or runs by Shrader.

I wish we had hit that pop pass to Mang in the end zone. That one play would have changed how teams defend us. Eventually Shrader will hit one of those.

I wish Shrader had seen Tucker open in the middle of the field on our last offensive play. Hit Tucker, we win the game.

I have been down on our WR’s ability to get separation and to go up and get 50/50 balls. As we move forward, I think we will see more from our young WRs. I hope to see some huge strides here.

That's why you establish Tucker running left. Yesterday the defense would flow with Tucker. If he remains the primary concern for defenses, that'll leave that roll to the right open for Shrader. Defenses will have to choose, if we're executing.

We know that. Does Gilbert.

Good question. It's exactly what I wanted them to do on that one redzone play where Shrader ran straight ahead into the pile.
I wouldn't bet my money on it, so far I've been very unimpressed by Gilbert

Absolutely terrible call. That call and early in the game not going for the sneak on 4th down were really bad calls.

We need all the parts of the team to perform at a high level to win. We don't have a lot of slack. A short punt, missed field goal/extra point, the big plays given up by the defense, poor use of timeouts, missed/dropped passes, missed blocks, etc. all hurt a little bit with some mistakes hurting more than others. Shrader played great, Tucker went over 100 yards, but we could have been sharper overall. If we leave the game in the hands of the officials, bad things are going to happen.

I was happy to see him make some adjustments in the second half. I just wish it happened sooner. My hope is that it can be explained by saying he is still figuring out Shrader and Shrader is still figuring out the offense.

It was definitely a step forward and good players can make not so good coaches look decent, if he can continue this progress and be consistent then we might have something there. Hopefully he and GS continue to evolve and get this thing moving

have him roll out to the left.
