Stupid #$%&'N Weddings!

So I just found out that I have to go to a wedding on October 18th - the day of the Wake Forest game. A small wedding that was just set in a friends home.

How can these people not look at the football schedule before setting this date? I've waited 9 months to watch this team and I don't want to miss seeing any games, even if it's only Wake. I know I could DVR it, but that will be useless since people will be talking about the game.

Some people really need to get their priorities straight!

Would it be crass to tell the future bride and groom instead of going to the wedding that you will buy them each a bottle of Cristal to celebrate if/when they get divorced? ;)

I'm in the same boat. Missing the Louisville game, Maryland and NC State all for weddings...all are weddings that we cannot get out of, so this year is already turning out poorly as far as attending many home games.

my buddy an i got married years ago weeks apart. for his game i was in the wedding party. i had a pocket tv in the church during the ceremony , had to turn it down to get the minister from getting upset.. for mine it was during a VT game.. i lost out going to the game, but i got to have tvs at the head tables.

You sir are fine human being.

I gave my wife a sports wedding calendar (im sure you can just google 1 of this and next year already) and said pick 1 of the dates thats "allowed"

I told her if it was just a nascar weekend to not worry about it.

All in all, I think only 1 person was disappointed. My uncle is big into horse racing and our wedding was in August so it killed a Saratoga wknd for him.

I have 3 kids...20, 16 and 3.

My wife pretty much knows not to ask anything on gameday during football season. Gameday is my Christmas 6 times a year.

Well I'm getting married on October 18 (at least made sure it wasn't a big game) and made sure the small reception was a place with TVs at the bar!
Every 7 years...every 7 years......

Get access to their wifi and watch discretely on your smart phone. I do it all the time with the wife. Tell her I'm on a call for work (using ear phones) and then turn on the game while at a kids birthday party.

I feel your pain but I think I have it worse. I will be missing two home games because of stupid weddings... NC State and Florida state.

If they end up getting a divorce in a few years then I will burn their houses down.

I'm missing the Louisville game to atone for my many sins. Beat that.
Only 1 game?

Edit: orange79 I just saw your identical post... Sorry. :)

Whatever happened to getting married in the summer months? :noidea:

I made sure our wedding was far away from sporting seasons that matter. There are a million baseball games, so missing one day of them is like "eh, who cares."

To the 30 and under crowd, you only have to deal with these sporting interruptions for about 5-10 years. They seem to start out in a wave, sometimes multiple weddings a year, but then it thins out until, before you know it, you haven't seen any of these people in ten years. So enjoy your time to party with friends and, as TexanMark alluded to, be happy you live in an age where you can stream the game to your phone.

So it's a new wedding at a house. I am assuming that the game will be either 12pm or 12:30pm kickoff...I am getting their earlier and scouting out the TV options.

Missed the Dar Dar kickoff crush spurrier game to stand up for a friend. Never have forgiven him. One of the handful of home games Ive missed in the last 30 years or so

their, they're, don't be so upset.

Fall weddings should be banned. Who wants to get married while everything around you is dying in preparation for winter? Spring is about newness and rebirth, summer is about partying and celebrations. Fall is for football. I went through it, as somebody mentioned it really starts to wind down after you hit 30. But beware.....the weddings may end.....but the friend's little kids bday parties begin.

Thanks for the catch...I didn't have time to proof-read as I was trying to post on my phone with one hand and feed my 1 year old in the other. Mornings are pretty hectic with kids and trying to get ready for work. Next time I will make sure to take time out of my busy day to proof read all of my internet posts so as not to break any grammatical rules.

Crap happens. The only mistake my wife made was scheduling the wedding for 4pm on a Saturday. Someone cracked the first bottle around noon as the Notre Dame Michigan game kicked off and by 3pm when we showed up at the church we were feeling pretty good. I don't remember but SU must have been off that day because 1/2 the wedding party was from Cuse. I was like the 4th of my buddies to get married so we were pretty experienced by that time and were able to greet many of the guests as they went in as we hung out back with quickly emptying coolers. Had a lot of fun and we finished the evening with my wife tending bar for a while at the neighborhood bar still in her wedding gown (God love her but I'm not sure she knew how to make a Jack and Coke but she knew how to pour a draft.

We actually looked at that date - Went with 12/6 - I'm missing the St johns game

I've heard a story that Jim Boeheim went missing at his own wedding. Not sure if it was the first or second wedding. In any case, it was held in a house (again, not sure if it was his own house or somebody else's). Nobody could find him for a while until they found in one of the bedrooms watching a Mets game on TV.
I think he also called Pitino on his (Pitino's) honeymoon to come coach for him.
