I thought the turnout on Sunday looked pretty good considering what I have seen in the past. Although I only see what is on TV, and that is not a lot. This year we have a pretty good TV presence with ESPN3 which I watch through my Roku or Apple TV. I would think for those living in Syracuse the women's games would be a great family day thing to do during the weekend or holidays. I am sure that from a price point you get to see some real quality games compared to other sports.
I happen to personally know a lot of the women players, and they are really incredible student athletes. Two of them are premed students, one of the twins, and Alexis Peterson. Alexis told me she is majoring in early childhood education because she wants to be a pediatric cancer specialist, and because she will get so much of the sciences in med school (she is also making sure she takes those she needs to get into med school) that she wanted to take her undergrad to learn how to best talk to and deal with the kids and their families. She told me all about this her freshman year. I was totally blown away. This is the other reason I am so passionate about this group of women. I spent a lot of time with them 2 years ago in AZ and honestly I don't think we can ask for a better group of women to represent us. This year, I met many of the families in Las Vegas as they came out for the tournament. You might meet Abby Grant's family at some point. They actually plan on renting an apartment in downtown Syracuse for the years that Abby is playing in Syracuse. Her whole family were in Vegas. Grandparents flew down from Washington State. Parents in from Atlanta. Brother, his girlfirend and Abby's boyfriend were all there. It was amazing to see all of the family support. Brittany Sykes mother was there, Brianna Butler's father came in from Philly, Maggie Morrison had a whole contingent there, and her father's boss is an alumni (played football at SU) who lives here in Scottsdale, and I know him. He works in Md for a company headquartered here in Phoenix. Honestly I felt like I was family by the time I left Vegas. I sat with Coach Q's family (he has 2 adorable boys) and Coach Vonn Read's wife and son (also adorable). I am so jealous of those of you who get to see this group all of the time.
KB do you attend LeMoyne games also? One of the prior Syracuse Alumni Office directors works for LeMoyne now, and I think she specifically does athletic fundraising. Her name is Kasha Godleski. Before moving to AZ I was also involved with the Northern NJ Club as an officer for 8 years. So I knew Kasha from that and also my first year in AZ as alumni club Pres. She is a very passionate LeMoyne fan. It looks from her facebook posts that LeMoyne games are also a good thing to attend. Ha ha. I am now promoting them.
