SU 86 vs Clemson 46: Sat Dec 11, 6 PM

This is a good column, good on Syracuse.com and Mike Curtis for diving a bit deeper into the team dynamics and publishing it. Like you posted above, imagine if Camilla had stayed so we had a true center. That's not a knock on Styles at all either, she has been great filling in that gap. I had no idea that she normally plays forward.
As I said before I was wrong wanting a complete makeover, Vonn Read deserves to be made the permanent coach. I really don't care what record they end up with this year.
He has put exciting fun basketball in the Dome again, he deserves the opportunity to go out and recruit. They play a fun type of game, and as others have said you can see they have fun and enjoy each other.
And isn't that what sport is supposed to be about.

The season is far from over-- but I agree here. My only question with Read is, can he recruit??? Because right now he is using the transfers and recruits that Q has gotten here. Perhaps, when all is said and done the recruits/transfers will see a fun of a brand of basketball and will want to follow suit. We will need the athletes/shooters like we do this year to play the kind of basketball that Read wants to play though. Im sure there will be plenty of solid options via the transfer portal if worst comes to worst.

The thing that annoyed me with Q was he would try and play the uptempo/in your face/press-style basketball when we haven't had the athletes the past few years to do so. It burned us numerous times. Plus, it's nice not having to watch the unnecessary theatrics on the sidelines when things don't go our way.

Read cannot possibly take ALL the credit though. It takes two to tango; and I must say the leadership of the transfers has been extraordinary. Murray, Chrislyn Carr, Christianna Carr, Styles... I mean, what a BLESSING they have been! I get a little confused with the extra COVID year, do we get to see another year of the Carr's with them being seniors, or no? I wish all of them would have transferred here sooner honestly.

Well Vonn(and staff) are the ones who recruited the transfers, so I think he is a pretty decent recruiter. Also if someone else how do you know they would be better recruiters?

And who has Vonn recruited here? I'm sure you have no idea, just like I don't haha. Most of the top recruits that have came here have said their relationship with Q was their deciding factor.

This team is so much better coached than any of our past teams. Their fundamentals are much better. They value the ball and shot selection is so much better. They actually play with a purpose. It’s too bad a few of the young players and last years recruits didn’t stick around.

The transfers all came after Q was gone. All the transfers were recruited by the interim staff.

Mangakahia amd Cardoso were both recruited heavily by Vonn. Not saying Q played no role.

What are you talking about? No they didn't. They all came BEFORE Q "resigned". They just wanted to stay, luckily. Was that due to Read and staff? I don't know. I hope it was one of the reasons.

What are you talking about none of them were here before Q was terminated( eh resigned under duress).

Hmm, I'm not quite sure which chronology you're following, because to my knowledge the transfers were already enrolled and on campus since June-July. Q didn't "resign" until early August?!

Jayla Thornton: Committed April 6
Eboni Walker: April 17
Naje Murray: April 19
Christianna Carr: May 13
Chrislyn Carr: May 17
Alaysia Styles: May 21
But who actually recruited them, because by those dates Q was under pretty intense duress. and I do not believe they were actually enrolled until September or late August. Any commitment could have been negated easily at Q "resignation". Is that not so?
Hillsman resigned 8/2/21. But hard to imagine him doing a lot of recruiting during the month or so before that resignation.

Summer Semester 2 began July 19.

Team workouts began July 20.

Not correct. They were enrolled early for summer sessions.

Correct. Which is why when Q "resigned" Shalexxus Aaron, Laura Salmerón, Amani Bartlett, Shayeann Day-Wilson, and Latasha Lattimore flipped their commitments to other schools. The transfers that are currently still on the team decided to stay, rather than to flip like the others did.

Okay but you are saying Vonn had nothing to do with their recruitment or retention, I am saying that is not factual.

What I said was that I wasn't sure, and that I hoped his relationship with them played a factor in their decision to stay. Are you sure? Do you have connections that i'm unaware of?

I love how this team has played after the Bahama's trip and it most certainly is not what I expected. Read deserves much credit for cobbling together a bunch of players into a cohesive team. Since we are only halfway through his first year as head coach I would hesitate giving him the keys to the castle yet though. How about letting this season play out before putting him in the driver's seat?

too soon to make decisions for a head coach. Way too soon

Let's remember that Vonn is supposedly the guru who crafted play our final four year. He has always been known as an excellent game plan person. So some thought is that Q got too big to listen to Vonn's game plan suggestions anymore. Now we are seeing Vonn's work again. Plus the chemistry has been a huge factor, which I will say probably was demanded for all of our teams after some of the things that happened last year. I am thinking that all coaches were instructed to work on team building strategies and activities. And if that is the case, it is a very good thing.

Are you denying that he was a major player in the recruitment of Mangakahia and Cardoso? among others.

But your original post was questioning recruiting ability, he has always been a major part of player recruiting under Q or did you not know that? especially the international players.

Are you trying to be a headache on purpose? You are correct. My original post WAS questioning his recruiting ability--because no one knows how well he will be able to recruit as a head coach which is a fact. Q did the majority of the recruiting to my knowledge.

Whenever a recruit made a statement about why they chose Syracuse it was always the relationship they had with Q, or it felt like a home away from home, or they wanted to get into Newhouse, etc. I've never read anywhere where someone said they came because the relationship they had with Vonn Read. Delisha and Q were the one's who sealed the deal with Cardoso actually.

I thought you said you had no inside knowledge? Either you do or you dont which is it? You are certainly claiming inside knowledge.
I would ask you the samed are you trying to be a headache on purposed?

Agree. I really like how things are going but I'm not quite ready to make a decision on Vonn's future after a couple ACC games.

Read and all the ladies had bonding times during the summer, which helped set the tone for this season. That and watching the interaction of the players with Vonn every game that I have seen, shows he is a teacher and leader.
He managed to keep all the ladies that transferred here except one, that's pretty good recruiting.
Would rather give him 3 years to see how he does then start all over again.
