SU Athletic Director Candidates

Lyke would be a complete disaster. Period end of story. If she is hired my dedication to SU sports along with some others will change. There is absolutely no reason to hire anyone for a position with the amount of negative baggage that Lyke has. The question would be why? How in Hell anyone with any degree of common sense would hire her over some of the other candidates is beyond me. The more I get involved with Syracuse athletics the more I don't like what i see. Maybe all schools are this messed up. Hopefully guys like Mike T and others stand up and demand that solid decisions are made.

So does she leave with Kent or does Haynie like her too? And can anyone confirm that Haynie liked Lyke? I think Mike will do well but if that is true ...
Sounds like running a 3rd grade class presidential election. Politics get involved at every level. Maybe Haynie needs to reevaluate everyone in a managerial position and blow up house as needed. Short term, he won't be the most popular person on the hill, but long term, it might be needed for the success of the athletic department.

If she is hired as A.D. I'd have trouble watching anything that Mike Tirico is on. Would be greatly disappointed in him. He knows better. Is smarter than this. Cares about SU too much to let this happen. If he objects he needs to resign from the BoT and make that public.

I've heard lots of bad things about her. She's one of the highest paid admins on the hill (behind Kent) clocking in at over 7 figures too.
The amount that administrators get paid at SU is shocking. And I'm talking in comparison to other similar positions at other similar schools (private, R1 institutions). A lot of their salaries aren't even in the same ballpark as their peers (according to the Chronicle of Higher Education). Meanwhile, faculty and coaches are underpaid relative to peers. And the issues with climate and culture have been rampant under KS. Why the BOT would want to "stay the course" with a legacy hire is beyond me.

Kent really created a clusterfudge here by hiring her as Chief Sport Administrator, and it sounds like she was undermining Wildhack.

“In a staff-wide email on Sept. 25, 2025, Wildhack allegedly named Lyke as Syracuse’s first-ever “Chief Sport Administrator” and wrote that she would lead “administrative operations for all 20 of our sports,” according to the documents. This title was not announced publicly.

The complainant alleged Lyke used the role to overstep Wildhack by assigning directives to people who she wasn’t supposed to be overseeing, per the documents. This included Lyke allegedly telling employees to disregard direct orders from Wildhack, then dismissing his position as an authority figure in front of other staff members, the documents state.”

Unbelievable.

The title of the article could have been written better. Bullying, abuse of authority, and undermining JW are the biggest things I took away from the article.

Happy Kent is leaving. I stuck up for him in the past, but good riddance.

Willfully trying to sabotage us with Lyke on his way out the door...

I hope his michigan gig is now under high scrutiny and they cut the cord on his hoya azz.

HOPING theat Haynie is not pro-Lyke anymore and has cut her cord as well... The wording on the statement about her allegations being verified but not in violation of school policy after investigation is wording that has me concerned.

"We checked, she good" is not really gonna fly here hopefully.

Thank you for reading the report.

Doubtful. They love him too much there as a Michigan man. View him as going to save the University of Michigan. None of this will stick to him there although it should be warning signs to them. It would be too much of another black eye to them to jettison him now after talking him out of retiring and taking this job to save them.

Said last night what could go wrong having 2 high level execs doing the same job for a year ha. I wish it was more uncommon but it's as American as apple pie.

If anything JW is looking like someone that was dealt a bad hand...How much worse things could've been if JW wasn't here blocking whatever Kent full agenda was is a great question.

It was worse under Gross. Believe it or not a lot of excess was cleaned up under JW. This is why I don't get KS sticking his nose in the AD. I understand the winning hasn't been there, but from a management and infrastructure standpoint everything JW did was to benefit SU.

Kent had an agenda, whatever that was, by his few actions that are public, didn't seem in the best interest of Syracuse University.

Yes, but I'm really talking about the academic side, not athletics.

when is the chancellor announcement today? and would like to hear scenarios that play out?

Haynie --> inside hire. does he bring the baggage of the past admins with him? Does that mean it's more likely to be an internal hire like Lyke or will he have the chops to go outside and bring in better?

Outside --> if new person outside of the family, Will they clean house further? Based on this drama, if it were me I would be taking a hard look at all these Kent people floating around and some heads would roll. Does that bring a whole lot of new faces that are more likely to bring in outside hires for all our sports positions.

Lot of whatifs...

I think this morning.

If you google Haynie he shows up as Chancellor FWIW ha.

Same. He seemed to handle certain sensitive situations well, and was very present for students.

Newhouse and Maxwell still humming so wasn't really into the school rank business, didn't seem to be our lane. SU still pumps applications (common app doesn't hurt).

But if he's the kind of guy that needs a mole and disrupter in the AD and is led by the nose by his COS, good riddance. And if SU wants to reward Lyke for that behavior, it's very easy for donors loyal to SU and not this crap to close the checkbook.

Lmfao Jeff.

It blows my mind that Syracuse is threatening to hire two people who literally no one else in the world wants. She was fired from Pitt for being awful at her job, and appears to be a fairly toxic boss. No one wants her because she is objectively awful, yet SU is possibly going to pay her an insane amount of money to drive the nail in coffin? And Hop, again, no one wants him, but there's a chance we can reanimate his corpse to continue his mediocre head coach career.

Edit: also why in an era of budget cuts and declining enrollment is academia adding extra layers of high paid bureaucracy?
