SU Athletic Director Candidates

Thanks Richmond was responding the same.

I actually don't think it's incompetence from Kent, I think it's just plain ego and cronyism like someone said above.

Dude is pushing 70, was in power for 12 years at SU and now was trying to make the cards fall right for Lyke. Thought he could just set up his successors everywhere prob before he left.

AND he's not even retiring, onto Michigan ha. I don't know what it is with that generation, they just want to stay in a position of power until they're dead.
yea, fair point. Candace really is the one to blame vs. Kent from what I understand. If she is staying, makes sense why she was trying to help a friend land a job post Pitt fiasco.

He didn't seek the Michigan job. Their board prevailed on him and his loyalty to UM to take on that role instead of retiring as he had planned.

A friend of mine was in an admin position at one of the schools at SU and was privy to some salaries. It was eye opening at how cavalier some people were with money for their staff, quite a few "do little, paid a lot" jobs.
A friend of mine was hired directly by Kent a while back to basically keep an eye on the top dog in his department. I'm not sure who that was, but I'm sure I could ask or do some digging to find out. Kent created the position. He was paid a nice salary as well as being provided with a furnished apartment downtown. Also, as he lived in DC, he flew up Sunday nights and flew back Thursday nights. Now, this guy is one of my best friends, but I'm sure the University spent quite a bit of money in an area where they didn't really have to. My buddy had helped Kent out years earlier when he was at Washington University and was told, "if there's anything I can ever do for you, just ask." Well, he asked and, for better or worse, Kent came through with his promise.

Well stated. For the grief that both Mike and Donna get, they really are excellent at their jobs. True professionals. They will always vet and double vet before they publish a story. It’s their reputations on the line. And it’s the absolute right thing to do. Far easier to publish potentially questionable content when you are a student newspaper than when you are the published news source of an entire region.
Donna also was a big fan of Lykes.

If Donna was a real professional we would know which kind of Uncrustable Haynie prefers by now.

Ahh that makes sense then. He was forced back to work. Thanks for clarifying
I don't know if I'd say "forced". But clearly from what I've read his arm was twisted and they pulled at his heart strings given all that Kent felt UM had done for him.

We should all watch closely today if Ditota, Waters, Axe, or even Paulie and Stevie bring up the DO article on Lykes. It's concerning to me that I have not heard a peep from any of them on Lyke even from a scandal at Pitt perspective even before this article, maybe I've missed some but you all can correct me.

I'm not even saying they need to give some expert opinion or we should care that much about what they think but no mention at all or silence just is very worrisome.

That tells me they're worried about pissing off Lyke or Haynie which in turn prob means that they really think there is chance Lykes could be the new AD.

If Lykes was really not in contention I would think some or all them would be piling on her like we're doing now to get her out, but I haven't seen that yet.
Paulie/Steve discussed it on their show today.

Like keep an eye as a spy (ala Heather) or just a nice gig with minimal responsibilities because he owed him a favor?

And in my experience dealing with them, they also tend to think they're the smartest people in every room. This is obviously overgeneralization, but this stereotype has a hint of truth.

There’s some truth in every stereotype, it wouldn’t exist.

You are just the type to say something like that.

From the new Syracuse.com article "Right Person at the Right Time: What they're saying about New Chancellor Mike Haynie"

U.S. Rep. John Mannion:

“I think he has a wealth of knowledge and he’s an ethical person who really wants what’s best for SU,” Mannion said. “He’s the right person at the right time.”

So how could he possibly want her to be the A.D.?

Okay. The Post Standard had the story. But it was sent anonymously and the allegations against Lyke were also sent anonymously. That doesn't reach the journalistic standards of any newspaper. The Daily Orange decided to go with the story regardless of that. Fact. They are not in the least worried about pissing off anyone at Syracuse University. You might not have been around for the out of bounds series they ran back in the early 90's. It set our program back. If they have the goods, they will print and not think twice about who doesn't like it.
You're implying syracuse.com has journalistic standards.

He was setting her up for a job that was held by someone else, had her report to him alone and put her in charge of sports that someone else was in charge of while having both of them report to him. It was undermining the goals and mission of the athletic department, setting up conflict, undermining authority, purposely causing dissonance within SU athletics. The exact opposite definition of leadership. Kent did this all to SU while he was planning his own retirement and probably working under the table with Michigan regarding his new Presidential position there . He was on the ACC’s executive committee regarding the ACC’s future, making decisions etc - now he’ll be one of the Big 10 leaders. Hmm

Wouldn't that "top dog" be Candace Campbell Jackson?
Wondering if it's just bad wording here, and the his he is referring to is the friend. So keep an eye on the top dog in whatever department his friend was hired into.
