SU Human Resource Complaint Towards Heather Lyke

I'm beginning to wonder whether hiring Lyke was part of the package the BOT presented to Haynie, in other words a done deal orchestrated by Syverud on the way out.

She just said hi to Carmelo

The university has to know they’re playing a dangerous game because if they hire her then they will lose some money from fans.
What makes you think the decision hasn't been made and she is still in the running? Pretty much every board insider plus Carlson and Waters are saying now Nick is a done deal.
Seems to be this daily mental tug of war people go through. A few people confirm its Nick and board is "great, sweet, it wasn't Lyke" and then a puff piece is printed and people suddenly forget Nick and are panicking about Lyke again.

Just stating the university has to know what the response would be from majority of fanbase.

Yeah.

Though, it would've been more honorable if JW had, let's just say, some spine, and not follow suit in his introductory speech of Autry by selling that similar/same type "bill of goods" to the viewing public and SU fan base, etc. Unless, he couldn't/wasn't able to even do that on his own. And, if that's truly the case, than Syracuse University deservedly reaped everything it has voluntarily sowed

"Autry has been exposed to every aspect of the sport, and that uniquely prepares him for the job. “Adrian earned this,” Wildhack said Friday. “Adrian’s not here because he’s an alum, because he played here, because he’s an associate coach here. He’s here because I believe he’s the best candidate to lead this program and sustain the success that coach Boeheim has established over 47 years.”

I would like to see what you think he should have said. Something like “I know this guy isn’t qualified but he’s got a lot of internal supporters at Syracuse, and they forced my hand so maybe a miracle will happen and this will work out”?

His job is literally to SELL THE DECISION TO THE PUBLIC. What he said isn’t some black mark against him - it shows that he’s a consummate professional who did what is expected of him or anyone in that role. That is - sell the decision as a great one even if you fought like hell against it behind closed doors and still disagree with it.

The complaints about Wildhack’s are often so childish that they end up sounding like a three year old toddler’s tantrum. This is a shining example. There’s certainly parts of his track record that can be legitimately criticized - “he did his best to get the community excited about Red and set him up for success” is not on any sane adult individual’s list.

An administration-orchestrated puff piece on Lyke in the PS should have everyone concerned... It certainly doesn't seem like some random article coming out on Saturday with the AD decision being made Mon or Tues...

Hopefully, it is that, however, and just coincidence ...and Carp is still a lock, but don't underestimate dysfunction on on the hill... It runs deep. Some of the "smartest" folks in the power broker room think they can sell the fans any decision they make I think... But agreed that a Lyke hire will be the Hindenberg fan reaction decision they aren't bargaining for.

Haynie has to know if he hired her there will be a slew of national newspaper articles exposing the damage she did at Pitt and discussing the HR complaint against her at Cuse. It also would not be favorable to Kent. Mike would not be starting out in a positive way.

Agree, but that might be why SU could be prepping the ground now. If she's hired I'm sure they'll say that they did extensive due diligence and are fully satisfied there are no problems.
I think she'd work for less than the other candidates and she's obviously a woman in a male-dominated field . Those things go a long way in current academia.

But they'll still get bad publicity. As was said in another post either in this thread or in the Nick C thread, Donna was already working on a story about her and if H.L. hadn't spoken to Donna the article would have been mostly negative about what the problems at Pitt were (which are mostly public in the Pittsburgh media) and the SU HR complaint against her. So it may have only been an attempt to puff her resume up for other employment and avoid an only mostly negative article about her. I agree that until it's formally announced there's always a chance. But I prefer to think positive at the moment and think that Haynie is too smart to do something dumb.

Maybe not just our BB program but our whole standing as a top D1 program in the next consolidation and reorganization. And if Chancellor-elect Haynie is right that having top notch athletic programs helps attrack students to Syraucse University, then the university's business plan also.

We have to remember that Syracuse already hired her and she had been around a year making a mess. I’m quite sure she has some dirt on us that we don’t need out there if we throw her under the bus.

Best to just get rid of her quietly and send her down to some midmajor program or something to shut her up.

Unfortunate that the writers of the article didn’t see through the charade more but Im sure they had a relationship with her last year for stories and it’s likely they know she’s not getting the job so this is them saying whatever. Throw her a puff piece and no one will hear from her again.

It’s not university orchestrated. They’re still annoyed about the DO piece earlier in the week.
