Maybe not the thread for it but Elmore was our 2nd or at worst/best third lineman on Sat. Vetterollo and and Tisdale really struggled in my opinion.
I watched him quite a bit. He did a pretty good job on pass blocking. I think he was able to use his size (or lack there of) to his advantage by using the lower leverage to stand up the rusher. Someone else mentioned it, why are we not pulling him on some runs? As a FB/TE his blocking ability on runs will be better when he is moving before engaging on the blocks.Maybe not the thread for it but Elmore was our 2nd or at worst/best third lineman on Sat. I keep hoping...Johnson's drop, PR illegal block, Devito's over throws and a few badly missed calls and the UNC game was 31-28 vs 31-6. Obviously the quality of team is in large part measured by completing and executing on such plays. Even two of those and it's 31-20.
My worry against Pitt is the cut backs and mis direction running plays. They have chewed us up on those every game under Babers with their power running wearing us down. Against UNC we did well until the 4th when fatigue took over in shutting those down. We need to complete some of the opportunities noted above and have juice left in the D in the 4th.
This defense shows promise still in creating turnovers. Thus hopefully we can keep that going and finally cash in a couple times for a change.
It unfortunately speaks to what the opinion of SU is outside of the bubble of this board. No one should be pushing the Defcon 5 button after 1 freeking game but the red warning lights should be blinding about this team after that opening performance, save for the defense.
Yes, Dino is embarrassed because of a point spread. I'm embarrassed for you too.100% Again, this is YEAR 5! If perception is indeed reality, well this speaks volumes imo. If I'm Dino, I'm completely embarrassed for myself, let alone for Syracuse University.

Just as you have difficulty visualizing (based upon comments in the crane thread) you also struggle with comprehending the broader scope. I'll spell it out for you...it's not the point spread per se, but the perception out there that Syracuse will get crushed yet again against a peer school. That's what I find embarrassing, and so should Dino, in my opinion.
I doubt very much you are embarrassed for me as much as you enjoy attempting to embarrass others here from what I've seen. Good for you...hope it fulfills your apparent need...the likes should help with this I'm certain.
And with that said we have hauled in two big gets at WR in the past few weeks so perception isn't in the pits yet and that is straight from recruiting.
Despite not being able to visualize how renderings would look in real life (answer: pretty great), I can visualize that this football team is moving in the right direction despite a poor result on Saturday. I think we'll hang with Pitt, just like we hung with UNC, and maybe even steal something.Just as you have difficulty visualizing (based upon comments in the crane thread) you also struggle with comprehending the broader scope. Pitt is dumb. I don't like them.
When you put it like that...Pitt is dumb. I don't like them.
If we can't look forward to our defense either, this is going to be a really long season. The line in this game just keep reflecting what ACC coaches said about the team before the season and how little talent we have. About how we have no one on the all ACC preseason team. I know its only one game but Im going to turn that around on our defense. Im not ready yet to say after one game they can play at an elite level for an entire season. I want to see 3-4 games against varying offenses and see how they hold up. I want to see how they hold up against a big physical offensive line that is healthy , North Carolina was down to six healthy lineman. I want to see them react if we get down a couple of touchdowns early and they are in a smash mouth game. I have been fooled before early in the year
Dont get me wrong I saw some really good things out there but lets not jump ahead after one game on our defense either. They are going to have to hold up for ten more games with questionable depth.
The offense is going nowhere until they can get serviceable OL play and some better play calling .
They may not be better than UNC as far as skill position talent but on the OL and DL, they are better for sure.
They are a team that starts to lean on your D with the power running game starting in the first quarter. UNC didn't run the ball much until late in the 3rd and the whole 4th qtr. Expect that to start at kickoff with Pitt and we will be gassed on D in the 2nd quarter.
I guarantee that with Narduzzi as their head coach with the exact same mentality as Marrone and the Dazzler. All it takes is a few running plays that work it will be like blood in the water, they will call the same play until we prove we can stop it. With their OL being all ACC and their RB's it wont take them long to figure it out. They moved away from that run game last year to a new OC and more pass heavy O.
And Dino is the exact same way. He will run it and run it and run it, even beyond pounding his own head into the wall. It's what has to be established in the game of football. We have to get better at running it and stopping itAll it takes is a few running plays that work it will be like blood in the water, they will call the same play until we prove we can stop it.
Those old school coaches always want to run the ball, that will never change.
