Things are sounding positive. It is important that SU hit on a couple of these last slots. HCDM may have a plan, but I hope part of that plan is to adjust his recruiting style as the team and the recruiting become more successful. I fully support identifying and offering kids early. But as SU becomes more of a player with the higher rated recruits we will need to offer fewer kids early. I do not however want Marrone to begin going back on his offers just because a "prettier girl comes along." I'm not sure if there is much gray area where you offer a kid but don't accept his committment. We all need to realize and accept that Marrone is still learning this aspect of his job. That's not to say he isn't a great talent evaluator but the program is obviously not to the point yet of being a selector school. If we lose out on a TJ Neal and don't get another player as highly rated or better and end up only with the lesser rated players we already have committed, so be it. It's a learning lesson. It's important to realize also that while Neal is really high on SU... he also loved his visit to Nebraska, and also has offers from Auburn, Florida, Illinois, NC State, Pitt, Tennessee, T Tech, USC and WVU. We likely wouldn't have gotten him even if we were one of his 5 visits. Marrone may also believe it was unlikely. But maybe next year he holds a few more offers back knowing that kids like this might be more possible. Sure would be nice though to get another in at McKeesport also. The star system matters and is relavant. It's a tool, not THE tool.
