it's a ranking of your point differential adjusted by the point differentials of your opponents

no great conclusions here, just some numbers. worth noting that Virginia has played the 8th toughest schedule. NC State 121st. We're somewhere in the middle like most of the teams on our schedule. Louisville has the 25th hardest schedule. UVA, Lou and NC St are the teams we might not be sure about. I think Pitt is pretty safely ranked in the 50s. Hopefully Dungy puts us better than 68 although a big reason we aren't ranked lower is because Mahoney threw TDs against a great team.

Just going by this, we still have hope and UVA isn't the whole season. Pitt and BC at home and hope that NC St actually sucks. I think this is more likely than beating UVA.

School Rk
Clemson 6
Louisiana State 13
Florida State 15
Pittsburgh 53
Louisville 54
North Carolina State 56
Boston College 63
Syracuse 68
Wake Forest 72
South Florida 73
Central Michigan 82
Virginia 89

you can sort by strength of schedule too. SRS is the ranking, SOS is the strength of schedule

SOS is a funny metric to look at mid stream. If you beat a team your SOS goes down because they are ranked lower, if you lose to then you SOS goes up because the team you played is ranked higher.

Essentially, it's something to hang your hat on if you lose games. "my losses are better than your losses!"

that's why you combine it with your own point differential

losing to good teams still shows up on the point differential side. all this does is sort 20 point losers to good teams over 20 point losers to bad teams. it's just a weight.

i look at SOS by itself looking for a story to tell for how we can get to three more wins.

Nice Stats, but they don't take into account bad breaks. CMU we score to go up 17-3, and our QB is taken out. First game back against USF, just get rolling, down 31-24, and QB throws ball out of bounds on 3-10, we have a personal foul penalty, and don't get the ball. That made that score worse then it should have been. We really haven't had the opportunity to see this offense, and defense together for an extended period. Dungey is a playmaker, and its time Tim lets him make plays. By scoring quickly you put pressure on the opposing team to score, which works into our defensive philosophy of pressure, which creates opponents mistakes.

Oh I understand it I just put more value you in it end of year when looking at bowl match ups. If we win more games our SOS will be lower as result thus I hope our SOS stays low.
