Sure Glad That Ugly Scene At Cortland Has Never Happened at SU

sorry but you when you have this many people partying things can escalate quickly. Maybe the police presence caused some of the escalation but what if they weren't there and 4000 people decided it was ok to start looting, raping and setting things on fire.

If anyone was at the 1999 'woodstock' you know what i'm talking about.

I was there. I decided to leave when I turned to the side and saw police approaching in Riot gear. I walked out past them as they walked in to the madness.

I partied a lot, been in a lot of crowd situations, in brawls, etc, and I have never seen a mob mentality situation like I did with what started with the Chili Peppers playing fire. I was about 15 yards or so from where the Mercedes got flipped over and kids were jumping on it upside down with gas leaking from it.

To be honest I thought the police presence really escalated things. Before the police came everyone was just drinking and tossing around a football.

One football for a crowd that size??? That's insanity!

No wonder they rioted! How could they possibly be expected to share just one football!

Twenty years ago there would have been at least 10 footballs - and no riot....

Of the 80 arrested only 19 were students, so a shade over 75% of the arrests composed of non students. There's a quote in there from a SUNY Cortland senior that there we folks there who didn't know anyone at the school.

"I ran into groups of people that didn't even know any of the students here," said Paloma Bido, a SUNY Cortland senior, from New York City. "They just heard that it gets crazy and they were staying in motels nearby just to come and party for the weekend."

Sounds like the regatta at Onondaga Lake every year.

The football was being thrown around like the bottles and cans...at unsuspecting victims

What time was the game? Those arrests start before noon Saturday. I guess it had nothing to do with the rivalry.
