SU's All-Pros

Ernie Green was the FB. You could ask George Allen what position Brown played. He was out where they needed to to get him the ball but he was rarely the lead blocker. Green led Brown often especially on sweeps.

Fullbacks were featured backs in those days. The two years before Jim showed up the NFL's leading rushers were Alan Ameche of the Colts and Rick Casares of the Bears. The only player other than Jim to lead the league during his career was Jim Taylor. All fullbacks, as were Joe Perry, Marion Motley, Deacon Dan Towler, Tank Younger, John Henry Johnson, Nick Pietrosante, Bill Brown, Ken Willard, Tom Woodeshick, Larry Csonka, Marv Hubbard, Franco Harris and John Riggins. Jim Brown was the greatest of them and his talents may have exceeded the the position but he was a fullback, not a halfback. Fullbacks weren't defined by lead blocking. They were defined by inside running. Neither Mitchell or Green were inside runners.

If you look at Ernie Green's record, you will see that he did play some fullback but that was for Leroy Kelly:

Good list. Hard to top that. Wasn't Kevin Mitchell kind of a hybrid down lineman/LB in the pros? Might he slip into one of those LB spots?

Poster above is right about Collins too.

Too lazy to check, but Kevin Abrams was a decent DB, and thought he spent some time with the Lions, Marcus Paul as well. Not sure about pro bowls, but solid NFL players:noidea:

Olindo Mare was a fantastic kicker, his stats are almost equal to Anderson except he's about 100 field goals behind him. What is that, about 5 seasons? Great onkickoffs, too.

Great post and comments. Thanks SWC75. I appreciate these historic posts you create. You and and the older commentors add a lot to the history that my dad taught me. GO ORANGE!
