SWC is gone

Heartbroken. Never met Steve, but read and listened to him for so long. When someone’s a part of your routine for 20 years, they’ve left a mark.

Rest well, SWC.
So true. I got so much knowledge from his post. His writeups are as good as any business overviews as I have ever seen. I can't imagine the amount of research and time he put into them. I always tried to thank him as so many did. For me there have been so many members of this community that are special. We have now lost three legends. All unique, very different from each other. Each one of them providing so much fun and interest. Each one a gift that could make your day with one of their post. Our communities loss. Heavens gain.

This is so sad. I never met him but always looked forward to reading his posts. Thinking of his family and friends during this difficult time.

A gentleman, not common in our times. The salt of a person is how he behaves when he need not behave. These forums provide anonymity but Steve never took refuge in opportunities for lesser manners. Not to mention his dedication and competency.

So sad. The board will not be the same without its bored historian. He was pure class.

I also found it admirable, in our worst season in 60 years, he would still do all his write-ups, the coaches show etc when obviously his health was failing him. He almost made it to the bitter end, “bowing out” only when his condition made it impossible. Just amazing.

Condolences to his friends and family.

I am also glad he got to hear a little at the end about how he meant a lot to so many in the fanbase. Wow, what a positive impact he had.

SWC died last night (3/17) at 9:30.

Steve passed as he had wished. He fell asleep and didn't wake up.

For the past few weeks, there has been some discomfort but no significant pain. He has been in and out of sleep for the last several days.
Omg this is

I recall sitting at the desk waiting for AOL to connect via Dial Up … just to log onto “The Board.” I’m pretty sure that’s where I read my first Upside/Downside, circa 1997 or so.

Today, I sent my son in college the link to this thread. He was home on Spring Break last week and said, “Hey, did you read about Steve.” Of course, I had. And we talked about the impact SWC had.

The annual Letters To My Brother. I got a chuckle from the post above that recalled the ire of newbies who came across Why XXX Will Win posts first before the corresponding Why Syracuse Will Win post.

And I was pleasantly reminded in another poignant post above of Steve’s annual Start of Spring tradition after the last Syracuse loss of basketball season. Personally, I endure winter, but like many, spring has come way too early in recent years.

Through it all, SWC has been a constant. “What do you mean we’re going to a tailgate with your Internet friends,” said my young bride in 1998 before the Tennessee game. “We don’t even know these people.”

I never did meet Steve. At least not that I recall. But we all got to know him. Heck, the kid who wasn’t even born back when that tailgate took place in the fall of 1998 knew him.

When you hang out in a place for the better part of three decades, you get to know a lot of people. Some better than others.

This is a big loss for the community. But we are all better for being a part of it.

We’ll miss you Steve. Happy Eternal Spring.

RIP Steve.
We couldn't have anyone better on the "other side" pulling for the Orange.
Thanks for everything SWC. You had an impact on many people's lives that you never met.
