No thanks. What is the fascination with the Army and SUNY? SU is private, let UB play the Danes and Stonybrook. IMO, Div1 football is a national game played on a national stage, period. Playing SUNY schools does nothing for the football team except put a notch in the W column. But why not keep playing the Richmonds, RIs, Novas, etc. and get exposure outside the crappy state of ny, which does not develop a whole lot of talent anyway. As for Army, I never understood the desire by many on this board to play them, however I'm not going to rant against it like I would the SUNY schools, I mean they are a still a legit D1 program. So is UB but I remember our prior series with them. It was extremely boring, no hype at all. I had more fun with Toledo and CMU.
Wasn't baked in last time we went there but hopefully will be going forward.Pyle... playing a military academy is special. Army is 3.5 hrs away from Syracuse and 1 hrs for Kaiser and the rest of the NYC crew. We need games in the OOC with wins baked in...this does it.
Man, takes me back to crisp Fall days in NYS... Battle of New York, only 2 FBS teams in the state. Is there a trophy for this series? Apple Cup is taken unfortunately...
I am super optimistic about Babers, but a few good seasons aren't going to put Syracuse on par with the elite coaching jobs. If Babers gets one of those opportunities, no reasonable person could expect him to pass it up. I expect Babers to leave the program in a much better place than it is now, which is fine with me.If the offense is half as exciting as predicted, ticket sales should increase enough to keep HCDB in town. Also, once HCDB has his recruits in place, he should be able to maintain a top level team and perfect the D to match the O.
so, will HCDB be here on the sidelines to coach that 2023 game?
I don't know, after his 4th national title at SU I'm not sure he stays in college.

He definitely says the right things and I bet he even believes them right now, but if an opportunity came up to coach a legendary program or the New England Patriots, he might change his mind. Who could blame him? It will be a nice problem to have.I wouldn't be so sure either way. As has been stated numerous times by people here - and Babers himself - he sees this job as his last, if he's successful. The way he talks about it - he's made us his Baylor (hopefully sans scandal). If it takes 4-5 years to get us where he wants, he'll be old enough that starting fresh again might not be that appealing.
I'm skeptical, but at least he's saying the right things. And either way, it's going to be a fun ride.

.I'm not feeling anxious at all. If he is still coaching the team 2023, it will be because he has been successful. If he isn't coaching the team in 2023, it will probably also be because he has been successful. We win either way.Honestly, it's not worth the anxiety at this point.
So you are saying the fanbase can dust off these old rags?

Yeah... I admit to owning one. But please don't tell anyone else. I trust ya'll.
I still hate that line of thinking. I'm not saying he will stay for eternity. But IF he is winning here, why would we be so defeatist to think that he would just take another college head coaching job for a similar amount of money? But this is what the majority of people in Syracuse will begin to say IF he has a few winning seasons. And then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy
I don't think it's a defeatist mentality. Talented and ambitious people don't often stay in the same place for too long. I don't think it's an insult to Syracuse if Babers moves on to one of the elite jobs. Nick Saban left LSU for the NFL. Rich Rodriguez left West Virginia at their peak to go to Michigan. Nobody knows what Babers will do in that situation, but again it will be a very nice problem to have. I look forward to it.This I agree with 100%. I think as a side effect of losing so much (and maybe local economy/too much snow) - there can be a culture that assumes the worst.
Clemson isn't convinced Dabo is leaving. Their history in total is not that different (up until very recently).

So if people talk about him potentially leaving he is more likely to leave? Not exactly what I was saying. I think when he starts to get the ship righted, the fans and Syracuse media will be asking the question out loud, a lot.
Similar to "when is JB retiring" or "wonder how long player x will stay here before going to the NBA"...
Like the previous poster stated - it becomes self-fulfilling.
Yeah. That's the "common wisdom." *As a side note: I don't think the common understanding of the majority always reflects wisdom.I don't think it's a defeatist mentality. Nice. OOC games that we should win, and against a school with some history. I'll take it.
As an aside, I remember several of the "CNY sports fan but likes ND or fill in the blank bandwagon national power" (we all know the type of dork I'm talking about) insisting that Army was going to beat us and end our winning streak back in '96. Blowing them right out of the Dome was extra satisfying because of that. I also thought McNabb's salute was awesome. If I recall, their cadets in the Dome came in way too lippy.
I wish Donovan didn't do the salute. I am sure he meant no harm but it was poor judgement on his part.I was at that game, wearing my dress gray's with a SU football t-shirt underneath. I was a man divided. Let's remember that the winning streak you refer to was preceded by your typical P&D early season struggles and an 0-2 start. Army was undefeated. Loved McNabb's salute, but a lot of my classmates did not. And yeah, we were lippy. A bunch of lippy bada$$e$ in uniform.
So if people talk about him potentially leaving he is more likely to leave?
I think if he wants to stay, he will stay.No idea.
Do you think if all of the local media, fans, players, and even his neighbors start to act like it's an inevitability - that it wouldn't have an effect on him?
I think if he wants to stay, he will stay.
