Syracuse can’t compete

Bad Business. This can't be sustainable. Duke makes 26M a year for Football and is paying a single average QB 4M of it, and NIL collectives are making none of it. When will these rich donors ask 'where's my cut (ROI)'?

Nobodies going to ask where’s my cut. They might start giving less or have the coach fired when the team still sucks. But that’s a completely different aspect.

Not many can. They have tons of FedEx money
We will win our share but we will also lose far more than win with players simply seeking the highest bidder. If people don’t like that, time to find another program to follow.

Or more likely stop following CFB altogether.

If they are paying him 4 million a yr what does that end up getting them? Maybe a few 8, 9, or 10 win seasons? Unless they are spending the same amount on the OL and DL they arnt winning a championship and probably arnt making the playoffs. Will the donors be happy with that likely outcome? If so great. But I cant imagine it brings them enough satisfaction to say "let's do this again" unless these people have SMU donor type money. IDK, its going to be really interesting to see where things are in 5-10 yrs with this system if it survives. I just cant imagine people ponying up millions year after year getting moderate results (God for bid the teams that have a few bad years) but hey, maybe crazy is the new sane

Duke isn't paying. Duke donors are paying. And I would imagine Duke has alumni that can find $4m in their couch.
Especially when they're trying to demonstrate that they bring value to the SEC/B1G.

A decent QB in college is now making more than double the NFL league minimum salary? This sounds sustainable.
NFL players get about 49% of revenue, and several QBs are getting over 20% of their team's cap space.

By that math, ACC starting QBs making over $4M a year makes total sense.

I don't think I'm reading this wrong

I think big donors would rather put their names on buildings and practice facilities over making 20 year olds millionaires every season.

This donor bubble can't last.

I don’t think we need to be paying a QB 4 million a year but we better start throwing some money around to patch up that defense, or else we are going to be looking at a 4 win season and all the positive mojo will be gone.
Remind me, when does the spring portal close?

Hyperbolic Humor doesn't bely the facts, How long will it take for football donors to realize they are being taken advantage of, We're paying the salaries of football players for the Colleges to make hundreds of millions of dollars for nothing in return.

How much you want to bet that reported figure is performance-based? Base salary of $1M.

Memphis has Fed Ex money.

People say this a lot but I’m skeptical. Are companies really donating to NIL collectives? I thought it was mostly individuals and alumni. And even if they did try to solicit FedEx executives who live in Memphis, why would they give tons of money to Memphis U collectives if they’re not alumni or heavily invested in the team? Maybe you get a few that want to donate, but not a ton. The Grizzlies are the main basketball game in town anyways. And Memphis isn’t even in a P4 conference.

$25mil in total and that was just the start. They are going to do way more shortly

It's trash the sport is about money now!! Good JOB!!!
The sport has always been about money from its earliest days. Now the players get their piece of the pie and somehow that's bad.

Blame the Supreme Court.
Really blame the NCAA for refusing to negotiate and give up a little bit of control. They could have negotiated with the plaintiffs and players could have gotten some money in a regulated system. Now we have a Supreme Court stamped wild west that cannot go away unless a players union agrees to make it go away.

I just like blaming the Supreme Court for stuff.

Compete with what? Unconfirmed rumors from an unnamed source on a story that appears to have started on a subscription fan board (Devil's Den)?

Oh, btw on a completely unrelated note, did you guys hear that we're about to sign the best person in the portal to a 52-year deal worth $700 trillion? It's fully guaranteed by the federal reserve. It commits their future children and grand children to Syracuse as well. This proves that the Orange are leading the NIL and the media should all relentlessly promote us, shaming other schools into submission.
