Syracuse football won Dino Babers' trust 3 years ago; to keep him, it must do so again

Dino will be here for a long time. Just a hunch.
I think so too. Give him some money and his assistants and things he asks for for most part and he will stay. No ties just a guess. Think he sees us as a home.

I think this whole thing hinges on Wildhack and his relationship with Babers.

Very true, while I have commented on his age and him and his families love for the area as positives; ultimately liking your boss and what your boss has to offer is the most influential. JW made alot of friends and earned alot of respect at the 4 letter, Stephen A as a prime example. I can't imagine they arent in JW's ear...

Go Cuse! What a weekend for FB and Hoops.

Really like that the AD is seriously considering renovating the Frosh dorms. Personally think they've been a hindrance.

REALLY? Are they primitive? Are there different buildings and options?

Well, compared with what I observed at South Alabama, Cincinnati, and MTSU, yeah, they're somewhat "primitive". Really, though, it's not so much that they're "gross" or "primitive", but there is a lot of room for improvement. I guess the way to really describe it is "dated".

Well all I have to say is when Mike Brady designed them they were the cats meow.

Yea, all of South Campus' housing is rather embarrassing at this point. Very utilitarian/Eastern Bloc. Raze it all and start over.

What's funny is that their tone has changed this year , and it's because Syracuse is good. It's interesting.

It’s amazing what can happen when you stop writing for clicks and start writing. The tone of the articles now are literally night and day from the off-season.

Well written, objective articles will generate clicks. Maybe they’ve learned that.

I heard Dino yesterday on Mike K's XM Radio show "Basketball and Beyond"

Babers didn't say it during the interview, but after it was over, Mike K said "he loves Syracuse."

The Syracuse HFC job was always a good job - one viewed very favorably by coaches across the country.

But it was always a difficult one that has become easier and much more appealing - perhaps more appealing that ever before.

It's easy living.

There is little pressure.

The money is good and getting better.

And, there is no beating the Dome.

So, I hope he does realize what a great situation he has in CNY.

Thanks for the recap, OrangePA

Dino loves that this is the only Dome in the P5. I've been told by several that attendance and student engagement are near the top of the list for DB. Which is why I think it was meaningful when he got choked up at the press conference after the Lousiville game when told about the attendance numbers.

One of the very unique things about Syracuse University is that it also bears the city's name and all that that encompasses. As a relatively small private school, with a relatively small alumni base in comparison to many of the state schools, people who didn't attend the school, but yet lived there for X number of years, identified with it. The younger you were, the more likely it had a lasting impression on one's DNA/wiring.

It is a large part as to why there are so many Syracuse fans throughout the country, no matter where you go, they seem to be everywhere, especially here in the South. However, that being said, a lot of these fans are approaching or at middle age or older (especially the ones that didn't attend). The population in the Syracuse area has certainly decreased in large numbers the past 2-3 decades, primarily because of lost jobs more than anything else. With that being the case, the younger folks who are now growing up in the area may be seeing success for the first time in their lives. Hopefully, it lasts, so that the fanfare will be lasting, even in the future during down years.

Although the population has dwindled considerably in the area, there is still the opportunity for revitalization as the metro and surrounding area is still plenty large enough to fill the relatively small Dome. Moreover, SU, and its sports teams gets a tremendous amount of exposure and coverage. It, for the most part, "is the only game in town." If done correctly, no doubt, the "build it and they will come" mantra will work. For any coach out there, if they have great success here, they will be treated as a rock star in this town, and be revered to their dying days...and beyond.

Makes sense.

We just can't be satisified with 42,000.

The place should be sold out - especially during a night game in October/November.

With continued success I think that will happen.
