Syracuse hires former Pittsburgh AD Heather Lyke in new advisory role

Heather Lyke served as the athletic director at Pittsburgh from 2017 through last September.

Wildhack confirmed the hiring of Lyke late Thursday afternoon and offered this statement:

“We’re thrilled to bring someone with Heather’s pedigree and expertise to our team in what is a transformative time in collegiate athletics,’' Wildhack said. ”She brings a wealth of experience and success to Syracuse.’'

Wildhack said Lyke would advise himself and Syverud on key initiatives at SU and work with coaches and administrators.

The SUAD really needs high level people who can take big projects and drive them to completion. Not much in the way of experienced personnel there right now.

She will help address this. Right now John has to handle all the high level stuff and it isn’t a reasonable workload.

Agree, there is no logical successor on the staff now. She would also address that issue.

When i was taking classes for my writing minor - which makes me an expert, self-published novel coming soon - I nervously raised my hand.

My Writing 101 teacher - Mr. Pencil, but we called him Mr. Pen - well, his face went screwy like a screw that's being screwed in by a screwdriver.

"I just introduced the syllabus," he said "what could you possibly have a question about? If you need to use the bathroom just go."

"it's not that, teach" I said, having already used the pisser three times in the fifteen minutes the course had started.

"What do you think separates a funny tweet from an exceptionally well written funny tweet? You see, my mom is very, very sick and I need to get a job at the tweet factory. I need to be a bigwig there so I can support her."

Mr. Pen - having seen many situations like this in his time - nodded knowingly.

"The key" he began "is to be an obnoxious a$$hole to the extent that your hackery confuses the average person. Don't make them laugh, make them angry."

I took this to heart. These were wise words.

Generally, at that level, being fired tends to have less to do with doing the wrong thing and more to do with doing the thing your boss doesn’t agree with. Whether your boss is right or wrong when your boss is CEO-equivalent is a 50/50 endeavor.

So being fired isn’t a great indicator of incompetence.
