Syracuse LAX in the 2010's

So glad this program has finally dug out of the hole that Desko put them in.
I hope getting back to the final four stops the Desko slander. Dude won 5 NCAA titles, was on staff for all-11, missed one tournament and was outside the top-10 going into one other. Was a national seed almost every other year.

There were some missed opportunities for sure, but he's easily a top-10 and probably top-5 coach all-time in lacrosse.

No question, as was Boeheim. However, rather than going out on top, both stayed too long to the detriment of both programs.

It’s kind of ironic that both lost their edge in recruiting, which led to the inevitable decline. Didn’t Desko have a feud with the Thompson family, which ended up with the boys going to Albany and becoming offensive machines?

There was no feud Jeremy was on the team when his brothers were recruited by Albany. If you want to say Syracuse didn’t recruit them hard enough you would be accurate and fair. Just remember Syracuse had a pretty good attack line up in those days as well

The brothers were Jeremy’s cousins, right?

Jeremy, Jerome, Miles, and Lyle are all brothers. Ty is their cousin.
Thanks, OX. Now I remember that whole recruiting thing. There was a lot of noise on here about Desko not wanting Ty but wanting Miles and Lyle.

Wasn't part of the issue with the Thompsons that Syracuse wanted them to go to OCC for 2 years like Jeremy did to qualify to go to Syracuse? But, Albany accepted them as freshmen?

I've heard two versions of the same story.

1. The three younger Thompsons wanted to be a package deal to the same school. SU was only interested in two of them. UAlbany took all three.

2. There were concerns that one of the kids wouldn't qualify. Scooby managed to get (and keep) all three eligible.

The irony is that even if they committed to Syracuse, they would have been here during the era when we were sub .500 in faceoffs. We never had the ball.
