Syracuse QB in 2025

Diggs, wax, Barron, cinco, Lewis are the 5 we will miss the most. Watch Fran’s presser about Barnes- “did we win without him? Ok then”
We also won with a defense that showed almost no ability to stop anybody so I suspect a lot of our defensive leaders are a lot more replaceable than fans think they are.

And I don't think it's an ERob thing because the same guys (sans Lewis/Diggs) got absolutely shredded by VT (38), UNC (40), FSU (41), and USF (45) the year prior.

I don't mean to crap on the players but I don't think people should necessarily be freaking out about getting younger/less experienced but more athletic given the track record of our defense the last 2 years.

Call me crazy but I don’t want another hired gun next year (I know McCord was so much more than that, but you know what I mean).

I’d like to see JW, Collins, and Carney all motivated and optimistic - for next year and beyond.

Three dudes who think they could take the reins this year or next, all battling it out in the gym, on the field, and in team/ unit meetings - with enough 1st and 2nd team reps to feed them all.

We’ve got a talented room. I trust one of those dudes is gonna set himself apart by August 30th.

I'm not a recruiting guru at all. However, why all the buzz for Carney? He wasn't highly recruited star wise. How would people compare him to Sellers (most on the board were correct about him). Who's came would they most likely compare Carney's to?

Do we have a drop-in McCord replacement? Nah. Are we in big trouble? Also no. I think this is going to be one of the more interesting spring games; we'd all do well to go.

Who's came would they most likely compare Carney's to?

I think he will be like Eric Dungey, but with 10% less size and 20% more arm.

The only thing I don't want to hear is that we're thinking about going with a platoon.
If Tennessee is a blowout it would be crazy to not play a few guys and I'd keep it going the next couple weeks. Then it should be clear who is the best come ACC play.

Playing a guy in a blow out is not a platoon.

David O backed up Diggs in 2024 and will hopefully be ready to be a key edge guy next year. Hopefully, Caden Brown can also contribute.

In the LB rotation, Heard and McDonald have experience, for better or worse. I’d like to see Moulrie-Goddard move up from specials here. I think Deslauries will play right away too.

Martin had a good bowl game. He might be a security blanket across from Kerr, who the staff clearly loves but hopefully can grow out of being so raw. McDaniel getting rotation would be a great sign too.

Safety is a question mark. Is Duce, Buxton, and Grant the answer? Can Duce step it up? Who are the rotation pieces.
I agree David O should have a good year. I also think KJE is ready to play and be a big contributor. I’d like to see the staff add 1LB from the portal, but I too think Deslauriers will play right away. I’m not overly worried about the secondary. Duce and Grant will be the leaders but there’s a lot of pieces that can play. Also Demetres Samuels enrolled early so he will have all spring to get acclimated.

The reason why he wasn’t ranked so high is because he played for a Christian school in Dallas that didn’t get much exposure. He lost 3 games in four years as a starter and won 4 Texas state championships. To add to his accolades, Brian Smith who’s a national recruiting analyst was a guest on Locked on Syracuse said if he played at a bigger school he would have been a top 10 QB in the class. He was also a 4 star with Rivals. 247 dropped the ball on their evaluation of him.

No info but my guess is we rock with the kids in an all out competition through spring game. Fran and staff put these guys through as many stress tests as possible and if they don’t have confidence after our spring game they go into portal to find a starter.

Not getting your leader / QB until spring is really not a great recipe for success so I only see that as a break glass in emergency scenario
The key is keeping a strong backup. Fran is a new coach and I don't think this will be a huge problem like it was in the past. In the past we seemed to lose the backup in the spring portal. New coach, new world.

We could still look for a portal QB. No one knows.

But a big part of my conversation yesterday is case in point...Florida State this season. No one really knows how Tenn. Clemson, Notre Dame et all will be next season, just as we don't know how we will be.

Agreed .. We just have to keep improving ourselves, don’t focus to much on others right now, and continuing to level up. Let the chips fall where they may. I believe Fran and team will figure it out.

We don’t need another QB. There is a ton of talent in that room. One of them will step up and earn the QB1 tag. Nixon will design his play calls to protect the qb as he further develops. Play calling is crucial to a qb success. Kyle even referenced that in his thank you when he declared. Not that Kyle wasn’t a great qb, but did anyone stop to think maybe the system made him better? It’s a very common result when you have a good play caller. Nixon is one of the best play callers I’ve seen.
