Syracuse University says it will build connection between Carrier Dome and Barnes Center

I’d rather they build some sort of atrium on a side of the dome, provably the north side, similar to what was previously done to the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Great news...should be able to build a nice area for tailgating and a social platform.
We need to expand the concourses desperately throughout the Dome. The eastern side is the easiest to do. I hope this project ends up doing this.

But the relatively small dollars involved seem to indicate this is a short sided solution that will do little to make things better. Great generousity by the Mirons. I hope we have forward thinkers making decisions here.

You will be impressed. Trust the cryptic guy on this one.

Happening a bit sooner than I had figured.

If $25M was considered astronomical then I would think $7M is still very significant. It's 2 1/3 times the amount that Carmelo donated to the Melo Center which is a great asset to the athletics complex. I don't see how this precludes further expansion of the footprint on the N, S, and W sides. I am hopeful that it will help increase momentum to identify funding for additional concourse improvements.

how much of anything can they even start until the roof is on. knowing that planning probably puts it out aways anyway

it will be interesting to see how this is done.. do they do multiple floors, is there room to go down as well?

At one time the idea was to have an escalator. The Barnes center would have healthy options for concessions. Don’t know if that’s the current plan.

I've heard that the old Archbold tunnel between the two buildings wasn't filled in when they built the Dome, but I don't think they opened it up or anything during last year's excavation. Anyway, this is supposed to be strictly vertical work from what I hear.

I don't want to diminish the enormous contribution the Mirons have committed to. This is a big deal.

When I hear about a project connecting the Barnes Center and the stadium, I would think big. An enclosed connection at the first concourse level (100s), an enclosed connection at the second concourse level (300s), which I think is right at ground level, and maybe even an open air lobby on the roof above that. Leverage every bit of space available. Make these dollars as meaningful and impactful to the fanbase as possible.

A hall of fame for athletics, things like that, could easily be added later. For now, the most important thing is to open up the concourses and give the fans a place to breathe, maybe sit down and eat/talk, relax before, during and after games. The stadium really needs an open place to decompress a bit, especially for big games.

Help, what building is the Barnes Center. Trying to get a picture in my mind.

Wouldn't this project fundamentally change the footprint of the Dome in such a way that it further reinforces the university's position in naming rights (i.e., no longer the stadium structure it was when agreement with Carrier was initiated)?

Some people hope so, but I haven't seen any case law to make me think so.

Let's go right to the article:

It refers to the Carrier Dome renovation as the “Stadium Project” and says the changes will create “a transformed stadium experience.”

It also notes that the connection will change the footprint of the current building, which one lawyer with naming rights experience has said could be an important factor in potential negotiations between Syracuse and Carrier.

So, could this rendering that was leaked awhile ago be the ultimate end goal of what they're trying to create here? (minus the roof obviously). And at the end of that article it said this "gift comes just days before plans to officially launch the largest fundraising campaign in the school’s history". Fundraiser for what? This project or the football operations center?
