Talk

I think a new practice facility and some XBOX's are way bigger priorities.

And recruiting

All you guys who talk about an open air stadium... never attended a game at old Archbold
Stadium in late November. In the freezing cold and the snow. Trust me, it won't fly.

Completely agree, CTO.

Train runs to the mall. And instead of the buses out of the dome for the satelite lots, bus the kids in. I don't think it would be be a big problem.

I think it would be. Before TCF stadium opened on campus here in town, the gophers played their games in the Metrodome, which was only about 1-2 miles off of campus. Even so, getting students there was a significant problem.

Parking is certainly plentiful in the area being discussed, but that is too far away for students to be expected to turn out in any reasonable numbers.

Whatever happened to parking down by Upstate in that garage and taking the shuttle bus up to the dome? Did Upstate buy that or something? I'm talking 15-20 years ago. I would love to see a big parking area directly off I-81 near Adams Street that shuttled you up to the dome. Sort of like Skytop but at least you you can see the dome and you are right off I-81. I guess the advantage of Skytop is that it pulls some traffic away from the hill area which probably makes it less congested around the dome. They should just do a study, release it to the public and put to bed the issue of it being so bad at SU. It looks like it can be just as bad elsewhere. And it will show that SU cares about the parking situation.

i cant believe we got 5 pages on a facetious topic.

the only way we will EVER see an open air stadium in Syracuse in the next 50 years is if the Dome roof rips and they cant replace it.

they will find a way to irregate any rain for a month or 2 while making sure a roof is on for hoop season.

Here are some shots of my ideal location. Some may remember this from a similar discussion we had a few years ago. Carrier Circle has excellent road access and the area has become quite decrepit since Carrier/Magna decided to pull out.

Carrier Corporation located at Thompson Rd & Carrier Circle

Cardinal Stadium superimposed on the Carrier Corp property. Same magnification. BTW...Cardinal Stadium is a retractable roof facility, capacity 63,400.

I'd have a short walk to attend Friday night games.

Alright enough of new stadium talk, Can we switch to talking about pulling 15,000 seats out of the dome? :)

I agree with Kaiser. Ain't no way there's gonna be a new stadium within the next 50 years.

I know we're just talking BS, and I wonder if football will even be around in a few years with all the head injury research going on, but this is what I would do.

I have no idea what this area is, or who owns it, but seems perfect for a stadium.

Tons of room. Parking and tailgating.

Nice, uhhh, symmetry. South campus would now be between the university and the stadium.

Has a nice little overlook (I always liked how I can see the dome driving by, even if I'm not stopping).

Probably cheap? Looks like an old chemical dump when you zoom in. :D

Being next to a golf course (even if not associated) will make it a bit prettier. I'd imagine a nice meeting place directly below the tree line.

Well I did and you are correct!

Not sure, but I think SU actually owns that parcel. It is below (and adjacent to) Skytop, where an open air stadium was proposed in the mid 1970's before the Dome was built. I think it was a quarry at one time. One thing about that area is that it is very swampy.

I like the alliance bank stadium spot. Parking lot, train and bus station right there out of towners can arrive steps away from the stadium. Heck if ya wanted to you could have a track roll right up to the stadium and drop ppl right off inside the stadium. A mall to send the other half to if need be.
