Class of 2024 TE Elijah Washington (VA) COMMITTED / SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE (12/20/23)

They already have an OGII recruit in Jamie Tremble.
I hope this doesn't make Jamie reconsider.
To me, Tremble is similar to OG. Same skill set. They will use him all over the field and try and use his unique physical abilities to create mismatches. I feel these two will likely be used in similar ways.

I think Elijah will be more of a red zone and 3rd down specialist. Or as a traditional TE, who will be expected to block on running plays.

I think he is going to grow into a traditional TE (except very tall) and will end up playing at 240-250, perhaps more, down the road.

I could see both playing at the same time in some situations.

I doubt it would. Tremble might end up being more of a wide receiver role, a la how OG was used last year.

Looks like Washington has speed, as well. And at 6-6+ he could end up being a tall receiver [currently only weighs 210] in the mold of Alford, or as Tomcat suggests he has the frame to get up to 240 / 250 and play as a more traditional TE.

Don't think either player precludes the other.

Mike Williams is the last to do it I believe.
Man, if only that dude had his head on straight. I think he was the best player we have had(potential-wise) since Freeney and it showed up at times(Northwestern game 2009 for example), just could not get it together at SU.

Some kids are their own worst enemies.

Even those who have unbelievable god-given natural ability that they self-undermine by making poor choices.

I feel like Tremble is gonna be a 6-4 220lbs hybrid where as this guy will hopefully get to 230-240lbs and line up more like a traditional TE.

He was the most talented and NFL ready player from Day 1 that we’ve had step on campus in the last 20 years. Just couldn’t stay focused on football.

The plan looks like they want Botha guys like Gadsden and Villari and 6-7 type guys like this kid and the kid from Albany. Different roles
Yep, seems they are recruiting tons of Small Forward/Power Forward types with more limited football experience than the factories look for. These SF/PF are converted to TE/WR/Edge/OLB types

Its a brilliant way to get the frames and athleticism necessary to play with top 25 teams while allowing for couple years of development for the skill set to come up to speed.

So, steering this back to the recruiting class, with Washington's commitment coming somewhat out of the blue [good offer list of peer programs, so quality "get"], are we kind of done with the class of 2024 -- except for maybe Willy Love?

Have to assume that the coaching staff is banking several scholarships for December, when the next wave of transfers hit the portal.

Are there any other HS prospects out there we're actively recruiting?
I was just thinking that - now at 17

Maybe 4-5 more kids now unless a great opportunity arises and save some for the spring?

Willy is almost certainly one, so 3-4 left?

Well said

I could be wrong about this, but I believe Ernie Davis may have been the first to play both football and basketball at SU. I saw him play against Penn St. in the Onondaga County War Memorial and he dominated!

You are wrong about that.

Wilmeth Sidat-Singh played both at a high level in the late 1930s.

Vic Hanson was an AA in football and basketball at Syracuse circa 1925-1927

A bunch of others also played both sports in those days, though no one as well as Vic.

He had a couple good years with the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Makes sense. I should have said in my life time ;)

Jim Brown. What sport didn’t he play at Syracuse.

After watching many of the SEC and Big 10 schools gorge themselves on the top hs o-line prospects, I expect a rash of portal entries and/or decommitments when the dust clears. I mention the o-line because I feel we need more talent there.
