Tennessee Postgame Discussion

Fire Robinson is very premature.

Injuries (per radio):

Grant to locker room. Was unable to go in 2nd half.

Cook didn't play in 4th qtr (ankle).

If we are as bad talent wise as we are calling plays on defense then the best approach to be either sell out to stop or run or pass. Pick one to try to shut down. Tennessee can’t have over 240 yards on both rushing and passing.
That's what I don't get about erobs system. It's not good at anything. Not pressure, not run defense, not pass defense and not turnovers. It doesn't do anything but give up yards and points. I'd rather have AI call the plays. Lol

Angeli plays soft, he is the Charmin Man. He is a decent thrower, but I didnt see anything spectacular in terms of either arm strength or ball placement. He reminded me of DeVito. You just CANNOT fumble for a defensive TD the play after we get a TO. Obviously, his lack of mobility and toughness is a big liability. If there are games when our O line dominates, he will do well. I just dont see this kid elevating the team when we are physically neutral or physically outmanned as we were today.

Not trying to pin the result on Angeli, obviously there was no overcoming the lack of D this afternoon, but college football has become a game where plus QB play is essential, and I am not seeing that we have that.

Game was a blowout, not even as close as the final score, I really wanted to get a glimpse of Collins near the end.

Defense struggled against a good SEC offense. I was very frustrated with the defensive plan because I don’t know what it is. UConn game will answer a lot of questions.
Offensively a few procedural penalties hurt early. The fumble by Angeli was a momentum killer. Offensive line held up ok. This is most likely the best or second best defense Syracuse will face.
Special teams weren’t an issue. Kerr 2 almost made a huge mistake, don’t know how the ball misses him.

It's hard to evaluate our team through a critical lens after playing Tennessee. I think Angeli showed a lot of poise. Yasin is a beast. Tennessee's pass rush was scary. Our team has a lot of heart.

UConn will pay.
I mean Tennessee very well may be the 6th or 7th toughest game on the schedule at the end of the year.

Biggest takeaway is the effort was certainly there. The kids battled throughout.

Fire Robinson is very premature. But he certainly needs to improve.. a lot. Was hoping his scheme would be better this year. My question is - what is our scheme on D? What are we trying to take away from the offense? I've been asking this same question since last season.

Offense and Angeli looked solid against an elite defense and will improve as the season progresses. Good foundation to work with there. Willis looks like a stud, should be getting higher percentage of the carries going forward. He's our bell cow.

You know, I think that's a little harsh. Especially early in the game he was bringing stunts to stuff the run, and I thought playing more aggressive than last season. That's part of the reason we got exposed in the secondary.

For me, there were times that we stopped the run, but then gave up a big pass on 3rd down. Then, there were a couple other drives where they were getting 8, 10, 12 yards on every carry.

I think if you look at the film, there were many plays where we executed well. But then we had major, major lapses. But it was Tennessee in a hostile environment.

We could have collapsed at a couple points in the game, but we certainly kept it respectable, and we played hard. We knocked a lot of their guys out of the game.
