Tennessee Postgame Discussion

Injuries (per radio):

Grant to locker room. Was unable to go in 2nd half.

Cook didn't play in 4th qtr (ankle).
He was warming up on sideline. Didn’t seem full strength. He looked like he should be fine for Saturday.

Russell got more run for Cook when he was out. We need him healthy.

My fear is we're going to find out we have one complete QB between Angeli and Collins.

Angeli can throw short and intermediate but not long.

Collins can throw long but not short and intermediate.

OC Nixon has his work cut out for him.

You know, I think that's a little harsh. Especially early in the game he was bringing stunts to stuff the run, and I thought playing more aggressive than last season. That's part of the reason we got exposed in the secondary.

For me, there were times that we stopped the run, but then gave up a big pass on 3rd down. Then, there were a couple other drives where they were getting 8, 10, 12 yards on every carry.

I think if you look at the film, there were many plays where we executed well. But then we had major, major lapses. But it was Tennessee in a hostile environment.

We could have collapsed at a couple points in the game, but we certainly kept it respectable, and we played hard. We knocked a lot of their guys out of the game.
The tackling was disappointing at times. Few big plays because of missed tackles. Stuff to clean up.

Yea that's not the case now then. Looked pretty slow.

Not pretty slow but slow. That said, Tennessee is a good defense.

Some positives, although we got big boyed at times, we also hurt them at times.

There were 3 or 4 plays that couldve resulted in a much closer game. Sometimes those breaks will go differently.

I am fearful Robinson’s system depends on us winning individual matchups. He also has a bend don’t break mentality. Fran has said in much in pressers. As good as a recruiter may be, we aren’t going to win a ton of individual matchuos versus Tennessee.

Angeli was not so great, holds the ball to long. Reminds me of Devito. Hopefully, better next week. Those turnovers were killers. The interception was all Angelis fault to start the second half.

Was at the game and my thoughts are

- overwhelming atmosphere. Definitely got to us. The moment we kicked off and forgot to get the tee off the field it felt like we were somewhere we shouldn’t be. Fran and the coordinators looked unprepared for the moment. It will get better but you had guys forgetting they were on special teams, illegal shifts, illegal guys down field. Just a disaster start. Once we settled in it got better.

- positive second half after the tipped pass int.

- Yasin is great. Johntay is great. Angeli not bad.

- it felt like Tennessee could score whenever they wanted. Their offense was bigger and stronger than us. Defense will be fine but they aren’t ready to play cfb playoff teams.

The Good: Angeli at QB looked composed, not overwhelmed by the moment.
The Bad: Defense is going to be bad... again.
The Ugly: Gap between athletes on elite teams and us is quite noticeable.
This is year TWO in a major rebuild
Yes for now their is a gap but we've closed it very quickly
Defense can out played by a great offensive scheme and a few more plays, they will be better then last year

I don't get why people think the defense will be fine. The schedule last year was a cake walk compared to this one and we had the same issues with multiple NFL guys on the field

tennessee pash rush generated 5 sacks and TO's. we couldn't generate any pressure. and i was a bit surprised to see the Vols offense still playing fast and snapping up by 2 scores in the 4th. instead the trailing team is using all the clock and calling timeouts to avoid delay of game calls. weird.

Why can’t the best recruiters in the country attract top talent?

Yeah I think that’s fair. It probably won’t be the biggest thing I noticed is we have no identity of who we want to be. If you watched a Syracuse football defense I’m not sure you can say these guys are good at ______

Would you fire EROB tomorrow? Curious
How drunk are you? Curious

To answer it, no of course not. IT's week one with a bunch of new pieces against a huge spread out offense that is very difficult to defend against. They clean up a few plays and it would have been a bit closer.
They appear to be about a 7ish win team which with our schedule it is a fine season.
