Thamel was somebody that Dr. Gross was close with and fed stuff to him. Gross wanted Thamel while at the NY Times for the whole Orange in the Apple Campaign.
Thamel got butthurt when the BB stuff happened and he didn't get what he wanted from JB and company(rightfully so I might add JB owed him nothing). Since Fine and with a new AD not kissing his "ring" Thamel hasn't been friendly to the program.
He is just a spoiled sportswriter who thinks the people he covers should make his job easier and holds grudges when they don't.
Can we please finally eliminate the term 'butthurt' from the sports discussion vernacular? It's so off-putting. I don't get offended by much, but that word just seems juvenile. Sorry to aim this at you Alsacs, plenty of people use it here.
As far as Thamel goes, the guy cares about SU, he also has a bruisable ego and that may be comig into play here. He models himself after old school sports journalists, Boston style, and he does a pretty good job of doing it. Those saying he shouldn't be expressing his opinions must not be reading much sports journalism. He's not tabulating box scores, the guy is writing articles that are necessarily full of opinion and judgment - because it's impossible to write about sports in any other way - it's about story telling and SU's story right now is less than great. It's the longer term 'story' of our tradition that continues go give hope through the lean years, that and a belief in reversion to the mean (it can't possibly get worse).
