That last punt did it for me

Come on Crusty, you can't take the game away from the kids there.
I am agreeing with the OP.
EDIT: My keyboard is sticking. I was saying that Shafer has no justification or rationalization or that stupid call.

I have given Shafer the benefit of the doubt all year, but that did it for me as well. From punts on the opponents 35-40 yd line, to that one just now..absolutely gutless decisions.. I don't care who the we have on our o line, or at QB.. Have some balls and go for it!

Someone from the media needs to ask the question. Repeatedly. Until we get a justifiable answer for this complete and utter nonsense.
It won't matter. The answer won't make any sense. Nothing will be learned.

I've gone to bat defending coaches early in their tenures, given resource and personnel constraints. That call shows me all I need to know - pure coaching mindset, distilled and isolated. Flush it.
I was agreeing with you but the post was not clear I guess. I have been unwavering in my support of the staff, but his really takes the cake. What did we have to lose? That was not very hard nosed.

no that is a coach who is looking to get the game over as soon as possible.

well stated and exactly describes me as well.

I was in favor of the Shafer hire at the time and was a backer for most of his tenure. But cracks in my faith started with the Villanova debacle and the rest of the season has revealed that he lacks the proper football intellect and coaching ability to run a power 5 program. That punt just distills all of it into an easy to see and impossible to defend decision.

millhouse has already diagnosed this disorder: Meatheadism.
It's more than that. Football isn't a passive-aggressive game. You have to have some coherent, articulable philosophy on offense, and it needs to be aggressive. Doesn't matter if it's smash-mouth beat-the-hell-out-of-them. You have to want to score points, and have a philosophy for how you are going to do it. Offense is fundamentally different than defense in that you start every play with the ball in your possession. Offense is where you impose your will and score points. You win games by seizing the moment and acting, doing, being. We are a cipher on offense, a nothing, a phantom. And I am done with it. It's not winning football.

There needs to be a complete overhaul and you can't allow our current AD to decide who the next coach will be. He's proven twice he has no clue. If this coaching staff comes back they have zero chance of putting fannies in the stands next year. I have no confidence with anyone on this staff. Daust might be the closest to a coach at this level. Everyone else is in over their heads.

Very well said and I agree 100%. It's very clear that Shafer simply doesn't have the chops. Nice guy, easy to root for but he's just totally in over his head. He is NOT P5 head coaching material. He's seems to be GRob bad at this point.

DING DING DING.

Between our basketball team heading forward and football team this past year, I am going to forget what it's like to score points.

same page as everyone else. i felt sick when he threw in the towel down 3 scores with ~8 minutes left. it's a defeatist attitude and just don't get it. i like shafer, seems like a good guy, but i just don't get this one.

Let me just add, ah, um...forget it, its perfect.

I'm sure it was ISIS fault, or all those illegals that crashed our boarder.
