The 2021 "at least we're not UConn" thread

UConn should drop FBS football and add men's lacrosse. UConn can never have a decent FBS football program, but all that lacrosse talent in the nkrtehast means that UConn could become a very good lacrosse program.

Starting a lax program from scratch in the NE would be extremely hard when the top talent has so many options from CC / D3 on up to D1 powerhouses, already close to home

Just look at the programs in the Syracuse area

Actually, I think it would be relatively very easy for that exact reason. Plenty of great players going to the top D3 schools that would find a shot at D1 with a UConn program very attractive. UCF and other upstart Florida schools don't struggle in football because there is such a large number of football-crazy schools in the region, right? I think it would be a similar situation for D1 lax at a school like UConn. That they haven't done it yet is a statement on the ineptitude of their leadership.

The immediate eligibility transfer option is going to make building a program from scratch so much harder.

Any decent player UConn has on their roster who has other options is going to take one of them.

The demise of the BE, awful HC hires, a small and very unloyal fan base, COVID, the decision to prioritize basketball over football, the rule changes to make transferring easy, and now the possibility that the alliance will freeze UConn out of playing any P5 program ever again...

it is the perfect storm.

In retrospect, they made the right decision to try and rescue the dying basketball program and let football go.
IDK. Everyone seems to focus on transfers out and not the transfers in. There are a lot of players looking for more PT that a new broom can pick up. That said, the move back to the BE could signal a return to D-1AA for football.

"Regardless of how the team finishes the season" as if there's any suspense LOL. I mean, MAYBE they'll be competitive with Yale and UMass... or maybe not.

Edit: Would they be the first FBS team that is not transitioning to lose to two FCS schools in a single season?

Lame duck staff…they won’t sign a kid until February.
