They do have a point in that the Rutgers Athletic Department, for those interested is located in the laundry basement broom closet, down the stairs, third door on the left, is the world's largest stage when it comes to College AD failure and debt. So they have that going for them...

HELLO? Can you say 1869 co-national college football championship, shared with Princeton?* Both went 1-1 that magical season. Or don't you recall? After all, isn't that why the B1G invited them because they brought championship caliber football to the conference? PedState, UNL, Rutgers - doesn't that lineup scream National Champions to you,

For the record, no one else came close to either in the polls! Not Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, tOSU, UT , OU, SU, Clemson, Pitt, Bama, UGA, et al., none were to be found when it came to Rutgers and Princeton football back in ol' 1869. Those two so dominated college football that fall that it was several years until another team was crowned champion. according to the regional circular, known as Eastern Soccer Publication News, which survives today in its derivative form as ESPN.

*The writers did not yet have their poll. The coaches poll split the championship as both coaches voted for their respective team. Meanwhile the Billingsley Report and the National Championship Foundation named Princeton as the sole champion, but that's not important now. The NCAA, was, of course, not yet in existence, had they been they would have taken their share of the gate from each game, or $3.27, if the historical records are accurate.

Lol. Rutgersal - esque. It’s not possible for a program to have been set up more to fail. They are in a division with Michigan, Ohio State and Penn St. 0-3 to start every year. And those schools will poach jersey talent with every appearance. And let’s be honest, every game against Penn st is a road game atmosphere.

There isn’t a coach alive who will see that as a good job...no mattter the $. It’s a career killer now. When Rutgers was in the big east, it wasn’t such a daunting job and someone like Schiano could see the possibilities. They will very likely end up hiring desperate coaches from now until the end of time.

I just popped over there to have a look around and whew. All i can say is i'm incredibly happy i'm not a fan of Rutgers.

I can't believe the expectations some of them have because of a couple decent years with Schiano.

So great that our True Freshman WR from New Jersey (who at one point was a Rutgers lock) has 21 catches for 326 yards and 2 touchdowns. They're going to have to stomach DeVito and Taj Harris lighting it up for the next 3 years.

Caliknight is such a loser. Every time he types Syracuse I laugh out loud. His only talking point has become the ACC sucks, we make more money. Hire Babers away LOL.

Caliknight is by far the biggest SU/ACC hater on that site, its not even close. The guy refuses to look at anything without his RU glasses on. Reading his posts you would think RU was Penn State in Fball and just having a down year. His lax posts are even better according to him RU has passed Syracuse and the B10 is by far the premier conference in Div 1. Forget the fact that RU hasn't made the NCAA tourney in 20+ years and continually can't win the big game but hey other then that their great.

Yes you are 100% correct. Bac2threac is an old timer to. I like him, good solid poster. He makes them crazy when he's level headed. There are a few levelheaded guys.

Fans dump on Rutgers because they had an 8 year stretch of good football (65-37 with one mythical 11-2 season) and because of it they thought they were far far superior to every team in the nation; especially us and BC. And that's the problem this 8 year period is their entire history. It's like UConn. The holier than thou attitude for one brief stretch that didn't even cover a decade. And have only had 1 winning season (8-5) since 2012 and yet still think their rightful place is next to Ohio State. Laughable which is why we do.

Schiano took over in 2001

From 2001 - 2004 they went (12-34)
From 2005 - 2012 they went (65-37)
From 2013 - Present they are (25-45) (we are 28-41 and trending up while they're even going to tank worse than the 2001-2004 stretch.

I think Cali grew up wearing Syracuse Orangemen underoos, and dreamed of playing lacrosse here and the lacrosse team didn't give him the time of day. Had to play at Rutgers instead and endure getting destroyed by Syracuse all those years. With the level of bitterness he displays it's clear he's a jilted girlfriend.

Holy cow, I just checked out their board. There's a guy that is seriously arguing that Rutgers and Syracuse are basically the same historically.

Rutgers is a .500 team historically and spent 75% of their history playing pee-wee football (ironically, if they were currently still playing pee-wee football they'd probably also be .500). Meanwhile we are ~200 or so games above .500 and have been playing big boy football for our entire history. Forget about national championships, Heisman winners, bowl appearances, bowl records, NFL HOFers, the greatest player ever, etc. It's not even close.

And no, playing a soccer game (not that there's anything wrong with that) in 1869 doesn't make you relevant.

But my favorite thing of all is that their crowning achievement is winning the Texas Bowl... which Scott Schafer also won.
