The all-inclusive Rutgers dumpster fire thread...

Does Syracuse end up building a clown statue of this man and all the help he has giving us, I kid...maybe...
Schiano should build Coach P a statue. It was on Coach P's watch that Rutgers rose out of nothing to start stealing wins and recruits from us. GRob was just an XP on that touchdown... a 2-pt conversion on that TD...a 2 pt conversion on that touchdown, along with a recovered onside kick with a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty added on for good measure.

New Dumpster fire definition: Having 2 of the top five picks in the NBA draft and still not making the tourney.
A school with athletic programs gifted with such few luxuries, blessed with 2 amazing talents...squanders the year and watches them walk off with at least one of them losing draft stock.

Not to defend Rutty, but are you calling getting picked 5th overall instead of 3rd “losing draft stock” or am I misinterpreting your comment?

Most mock drafts had him falling further than that. Number 5 isn't bad, but he should have been 2 or 3.

I don’t agree with this. For starters, it was the administration’s lack of support that led to a recruiting and subsequent talent drop. That in turn led to a results drop under P, but in the 4 year overlap, (2001-2004) there was only one season we weren’t bowl eligible and finished first or second in the league for two. As for Rutgers, they hadn’t been to a bowl since 1978 and Schiano was on the hot seat. When Nancy and Hollywood fired P, we lost some valuable recruits including Ray Rice going to Rutgers. That one flip resulted in their first bowl appearance in 27 years and the beginning of Schiano’s (and Rutgers’) best run in their history. Hard to blame that on P.

Yeah, a culmination of things.

P had staff issues due to lack of funding from AD.

Those staff issues led to a poor relationship with the Leonard family, and Brian went to Rutgers as well as damaged relationships with strong HS programs in the northeast and NJ.

Then we lost Ray Rice and Courtney Greene to Rutgers with lack of P support and his eventual removal.

We also whiffed on the talent evaluation end with Cecil Howard and totally miss used Johnnie Morant, which rubbed a lot of NJ coaches wrong on how we handled his career here.

Then we truly buried ourselves and shot off 9 toes by hiring Greg.

Going from a Chancellor who didn’t care about Athletics in Shaw to one like Nancy who should never have been at a major college. Then adding a carnival guy like the doctor, all the bad things happened at once.

Yeah but before that P went 16-20 his last three years with one bowl appearance which was an absolute drubbing by Georgia Tech .. losing Vick I feel is what turned the tide and cooked P for good. Honestly outside of 2001 those last 6 years he was here ranged from mediocre to not good. Honestly he underachieved during the McNabb years if we are being honest.
