The Annual Bubble Discussion Thread - 2021 Version

Yep and we smoked Georgetown who won like 17 of 18 games heading into the Dance and we were that one loss. That started the SU vs Gottlieb era that has continued to this day because he was openly happy we didn’t make it, basically saying we should be an example of why you should schedule tougher OOC games
Was that really the start of Syracuse never leaves CNY during OOC play? Man, time flies.

Seems like a lot of B1G, Big 12, SEC teams are benefiting from net ranking points for piling up losses to Quad 1 teams. Another flaw in the ranking system. Penn St #48 (1 spot ahead of us) 9-13 record but 2-11 against Quad 1. Kentucky #58 despite 9-15 record because they are 3-12 against Quad 1.

2 conferences have 6 teams ranked in top 25. Acc only has 3.
Some standings have Louisville dropping to 7th in conference due to the lack of games played.
If we also had 6 ranked, we would have 3 top 25 wins instead of 1. Not sure if that matters or not, but still would sound better in a conversation. 13-1 at home with three top 25 wins. It's very possible we are better than advertised and Duke is getting downplayed a bit.

Florida is a lock and yet they are now 13-8 after the loss just now to Tenn. They have some decent wins but they lose the first round if the SECT sitting at 13-9.. no way that's a lock.

Loyola is an interesting case. Their whole resume and ranking is built in league play. Their only two games against non league strong competition included losses to Wisconsin and Richmond. Drake then beat now 8-19 Kansas State. The MVC has 3 teams in the top 100 of the Net.

Loyola is 16 in the Net but their only win of significance is Drake. So those two essentially are supporting one another on their own. Its wild how you can be so high on the NET while beating almost no one except Q3/Q4 teams.

Outside that inflated Net, LUC is riding their AP ranking and previous FF run.

Loyola’s resume is interesting. Not a lot of meat on the bone. But I will say, they do pass the eye test. They play defense, move the ball well, have a couple shooters, and a really solid big man.
