The Annual Bubble Discussion Thread - 2021 Version

Resume can potentially improve with the right results in the ACC Tournament. If Clemson can move up 6 spots that becomes a W1. Same with UNC if they can jump 9. If Notre Dame can move up 7 that win becomes a Q2. And if Miami jumps 3 they move into Q3.

Looking at all the metrics, and not because it's more favorable to us the one that makes the most sense to me is BPI. It's still flawed but some of the other stupidity with losing teams is at least somewhat cleaned up with their S curve.

I remember all those years when the BE (ACC as well) was loaded with good teams how I would read here about how much of a gauntlet it was, those teams beat each other up, the bubble teams in the BE/ACC were better than in the other leagues even if they ate some losses because of how good the comp was. And now the loaded leagues are the B12 and the B10 and I'm reading about how team X from that league isnt any good because they lost 3 out of 4 or something.

Drake and Loyola play today, both teams probably already in the field though. That is a bid stealing league.

to wit-
lunardi's (and palm's and decourcy's and...) "last 4" "first 4" dart throwing is just that -- you, I, or anyone following along could spitball it just as "expertly"

our team is right in the mix and none of us know what criteria and process the committee is using in this completely unique year

Exactly this. If ever the was a year for the committee to make arbitrary decisions based on shutdowns and performance, this is the year. "The look test" matters more this year then ever before and the committee will adjust their criteria on the fly accordingly. The only way to feel safe is to keep winning, but who knows what they'll decide this year.

Speaking of Palm -- looked up his latest a short while ago as he has been one of the best national guys over the years as many of you know (credit to Bees for mentioning him about 15 years ago). Jerry has us knocking on the door now (2nd out) which made me smile -- we are so freakin' close now I can smell it. Dasher might be right, one may be enough as long as we don't get blown out -- at the very least we need to pass the "eye test".

teams that can win if its only about playing well

B10 Mich/ILL
ACC FSu/Virg
B12 Baylor
Gonz

everyone else is just a crap shoot.. They all have their nights, all very athletic but helter skelter styles.

WV for the life of me dont get how they have the record they do.. Tex/Ok is the same team in different Unis.. run around and hope the game is out of control.

Iowa has not looked like the same team in 6-7 weeks.. But they took it to OSU after getting blown out by Mich

B12 is better than B10 to me though.
Last odds I saw:

Zags or Baylor even $

Field -150

Might be interesting to see if Drake missing their leading scorer ShanQuan Hemphill since Feb. 10 will be a factor for the committee. He is supposed to be back for the NCAA and it sounds legitimate as opposed to an Arinze "day to day" situation. They also lost their point guard, but he's out for the season, so the team without him is their team

I remember the time we had done everything right, and on Selection Sunday no one was worried. And then we weren’t selected. I can’t remember the year but I can remember the sense of utter shock. I believe I bought an orange T shirt with a big screw on it, but my mind still blanks out on the season.

And it feels like since that time we have been on the bubble more often than not. But in that regard, I could be wrong.

2007. We also were the first team out the following year thanks to Georgia winning the SEC tourney. We then entered our third “golden age” the year after that.

‘07 was the worst I can remember... 24-11 / 10-6 in the Big East. Hi-Way robbery.

I’ll never forget thinking we didn’t have much of a shot in 2016. Then the bracket leaked... that was crazy

Yep and we smoked Georgetown who won like 17 of 18 games heading into the Dance and we were that one loss. That started the SU vs Gottlieb era that has continued to this day because he was openly happy we didn’t make it, basically saying we should be an example of why you should schedule tougher OOC games
