The Big Picture

Great post Finwad32 however Ward still puzzles me.....how we didn't roll a safety deep after the first two times they threw over are heads doesn't make sense.....it took them to get within one score to finally play someone in "Centerfield"

Johnson has the speed and the Shake n Bake but that said, I'm hoping his hands improved from last year.

I agree with much of the OP but let me ask this question. If I had told everyone that, after the game, Dungey would have tape on his right shoulder and ice on his left, would you feel good about him lasting an entire season?

Actually the ice wrap is on his right shoulder also. The picture is a selfie and is inverted. You can tell with the Nike logo.

I dont think the safety not getting high enough isnt more than the kid not being in the right spot. it happened over and over. speed is something you need to get used to and being game one he probably had his eyes in the wrong spot. what hurt us was we ran much of the same looks vs WM and had the same result except our guys couldnt create the same cushion and we over threw all the passes. WM had no safety help over and over and a couple Custis took advantage of, but the rest fell incomplete.

On O Dungey had to carry us. Didn't expect that to be needed to get a simple first down. I was expecting the OL to play better. Both Dungey and DeVito were under pressure pretty often. The running game was non existent again. Next week the OL needs to figure things out.
Holy Smokes! What game were you watching??? Other than Dungey, the OL was the story of the game. Totally dominated the LOS. Dude, I think you accidentally threw in an old GRob vhs.

The true freshman S and Scoop got beat by one of the fastest guys they’ll see all season. I’m hopeful that Cisco learns from that and that if Scoop keeps it up we roll out Trill more

the ran the same plays the first half and we didnt get nearly the separation, Db coaches will have to explain if it was all speed or just slow hips, it didnt help that we also struggled with the hooks as well. I think trill helps us on the deep stuff but if they can get turned around every other play it will be tough to stop decent WRs.

ours ran some lazy patterns last week, the only stuff we seemed to run through were the deep throws, we just rolled through all the slants and curls. That is where the young kids need to step up there game, i think they all have a shot to get on the field being bigger/stronger than riley. We didnt see one throw to the slot that Phillips would make 5-6 times a game.

The bid picture is we are 1-0. We did some things real good; and we did some things that were just plain ugly. There a lot of discussion points of the game, that make it fun to come to the board, at least to me.

Lastly, I thought this game was very entertaining. Who didn’t wonder what ED was going to do? Who didn’t get a kick out of the big guys returning kickoffs? And many more examples of how entertained I was.

When Coach Babers was hired, a lot of the people on this board wanted a more interesting brand of football. I think Friday we got it.

The score was 55-21 with Dungey in the game, against a 5 pt underdog on the road, on grass, a team that took USC late into the 4Q on the road last year. Michigan State needed a very late TD to beat Utah State last night, Wake went to OT to beat Tulane. Plenty to work on but take the freaking win and be happy. And pray Dungey can stay healthy. And hope the NCAA approves Jackson and/or Adams to play this year, that wouldn’t hurt
What are they waiting for

Whitner is much better at LB than DB. Good hands on the INT as well.
He is but he has a hard time getting off blocks. Don’t know what our guys teach but Dan Conley always told me that some coaches teach dip and rip so they get by the big uglies without making contact. Guthrie is more natural at it cause he has always played lb. a couple times I saw whit square up with ol and he didn’t do well. Great motor and flies to the ball though so I think we got 2 good ones and Armstrong played tough too. I was nervous of him only because he seemed to be a catcher and not a downhill type. Consider me relieved. He came downhill hard and has speed too.

But isn’t Cisco supposed to be deeper than there deepest player anyways. Don’t get me wrong, their receivers have serious speed but if u know that flip the hips and go and neither Bradshaw or Cisco did that and a few times even Cordy.

Who says he’s the best inside wr? He hasn’t done jack on the field. This board is ridiculous.
I look forward to Johnson, as rough as this is to say, because he's not Riley. Riley just looks so limited and small out there.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

You thought they dominated the LOS? If that were the case I think we would have seen more gaping holes and RBs not getting touched until they were 5 yards past the LOS. I didn't see that. I watched other games this weekend where that was the case. I'd say they looked solid, but they were far from dominant.

First game, this should improve, but the line did pretty well for this game. They pretty much dominated that D line.

We did see gaping holes. Go back and watch all the run plays in the 1st half. There was wide open space EVERYWHERE. The RB’s found some of them and did t see others. I looked at the entirety of the run game today and in the first half SU was manhandling them at the LOS. 2nd half was a different story, but then again WMU was attacking Devito the whole 3rd quarter. In the 4th, the runs were designed to chew clock.

Did anyone else notice we didnt throw any reciever screens? I thought that was interesting because we lived on those the last couple years.
I remember one to Custis, but that's all I can think of.

If that's the case, our RBs are worse than I thought. Gaping holes should lead to a much better average than our RBs had. I'll have to take your word for it, I guess.

Really? Did you miss the constant pressure they put on Dungey? Did you miss what happened when Dungey went out? Look at the drive chart. ‍♂️

Strick has no vision. He has missed more holes than Coon dog:)

Show me.
Watch the replays. Vision is not his gift as an RB. After you watch Strick watch Eric who has great vision. If you want a good example of Stricks lack of Vision dial up his touch down last year against Clemson. Great catch and great balance. Now follow the run to the end zone. So tell me Bees do you think one of Stricks strengths as a RB is his vision? If so please point out a couple of runs that prove your point.
