the crane the crane

But Daddy! I WANT AN OOMPA LOOMPA!!!
AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!! :p
I don’t think y’all realize this is SU. If they don’t add the fixtures now... then It. Will. Not. Happen. Ever. This is not about being patient. Pete, ADJW and Kenny will not be visited by 3 ghosts on Xmas eve, unfortunately. and even if they were they’d tell the ghosts to kick rocks.

Still quite a bit of work being done on the roof. I'm assuming its closing up seams with the giant hairdryer, final inspections, and things like that.

Morning update:

There are still a bunch of workers on the roof.

Most, if not all of the big wooden boxes that held the PTFE fabric are still sitting up there, close to the border between the PTFE and hard shell sections.

It looks like they are working on the seams of the PTFE panels. Still think there is work to be done to connect the edges securely to the cables, so they are completely water tight. When the LED lights were on and they were doing testing, you can see there were gaps in these seams.

With no cranes remaining outside, it will be interesting to see how they get the boxes off the roof. I think they still have cherry pickers that can reach the ring surrounding the roof, and they can probably use them to get them down from the ring, but moving them from near the PTFE section to the ring might be a challenge.

I wonder why they were in such a hurry to kick the live feed from the Lawrinson camera? Why even bother to put the stream up if you weren't going to bother to leave it up to the end of the project?

Even with the roof complete, or close to complete, that camera was the best view of the whole roof available. Why not promote the project and the enormous investment the university made? It it that bad that people could see it and maybe see the testing of the LED lighting?

First, let's see how it looks at night when we light up the inside. We have already seen some of that and it does create some outside lighting and it looks pretty cool. Second, the schedule and finances are tight. What they have done so far is incredible given all constraints. Adding outside lighting will be a financial thing. If they want it and can pay for it, it's an easy thing to add. The heavy lifting has been done. It's not like adding lights will create expensive rework to do. If it never happens that means they don't want it to happen... not that they missed their chance.

Its probably saving the $5 a month that streaming server cost rolling over to a new billing cycle middle of the month.

you could always bring in a chopper those boxes cant weigh all that much empty.

I do wonder after seeing part of the build if the lack of cameras has something to do with trade secrets or proprietary info being able to be discerned by competitors on video. Otherwise makes little sense.

There seem to be a lot of videos on the building of stadiums roofs. Lots of live streaming cameras following stadium construction. Heck, there is a whole series on TV on the building of modern marvel stadia.

And while I am proud of our nice, new little roof, I am pretty sure the technology used is not super cutting edge compared to many of the other sites out there.

Probably a little late to keep all this on the down low.

I am pretty sure the powers that be just do not want people looking at what is going on. They were probably told this had to be streamed and they tolerated it and pulled the plug as soon as they could.

Sporting events have played a key role in the spread of COVID.

Game zero played a key role in the spread of COVID in Europe.

Yes, limiting capacity will help reduce risk. As will asking fans to wear masks. But there is no guarantee fans will wear them appropriately. Behaviors typical at sporting events: screaming at the top of one's lungs, giving fist bumps and high fives, etc...are things you don't see at casinos.

You have never played Craps or been at a hot blackjack table I take it. Yelling, high fives, hugs and even kissing all go down when people are winning.

Correct. I haven't even been at a cold blackjack table...

Back to the project, a crane has appeared and it looks like it is starting to remove the remaining stuff from the roof. So far, no sign of a zip line.

Club 44 was added, concessions were updated, new scoreboards were put in, and that was all in the last 10 years so I have no idea where this line of thinking has come from. Clearly they understand about upgrading fan experience.

Let's save this post and check back in 23 months......
