The Daily Orange...

Absolutely nobody wanted to pick him up. Coaches don't think he is a P5 back.

Again, 2 key points:

5.7 yoc is one of the best ever for a frosh at SU.

And if any of our current RBs transferred, where would they land?

A lot are missing the most important part of the article.

The assistant coach, Hart, told him to call Babers. Handling parents and coaches is the assistant coaches job. I was the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach for 2 years at a NAIA school. I got these calls quite often.

If I sent them along to my head coach, my head coach would have killed me. Hart not doing his job and being receptive to a high school coach because "he doesn't decide starters" is ridiculous. You tell the HS coach that he needs to improve this and this. It's not hard. The HS coach may not agree, but he isn't going to risk burning a bridge.

Strickland and Neal would be starters on other teams, just not at RB, IMO.

I thought the article was pretty fair. The one coach who had strong negative thoughts had Jordan Fredericks as a player in HS and if what he says is true (he tried repeatedly to reach out to Dino before Jordan made the decision to transfer), this is a legit beef with Coach Babers.

I get the feeling Dino doesn't want to talk about playing time issues with anyone except the players directly. I don't think this is a great way of handling things but there might well have been extenuating circumstances at play here that the writer was not aware of.

For all the good things he has said, I don't think Dino considers recruits out of NYS a priority and he probably never will. I hope the handful of players he has been willing to take develop into big time players and change his perception on players from this state.

This is the one area where I wish Dino was a little different, as I am a big advocate for NYS HS football. But no one is perfect and Dino has so many great qualities, I don't hold this against him much. The guy is doing a good job finding good players. I think at least a part of the problem is that players and HS coaches from NYS do not treat the SU program with the respect he thinks the home state program deserves. That should change as they realize who he is and what he has done with the SU program over time.

I thought it was fair, too. it acknowledged that Dino's going to go after the best players where he thinks he can get them. NYS coaches think that he's under-valuing their player. it's OK for them to think that. I agree that Frederick's coach sounded very bitter. They mystery of what happened there deepens.

If the coaches asked him to do certain things to get back to RB #1 and he didn’t? I mean we all know what he was as a frosh, but that was in a different system with different coaches.

Hart isn't here anymore.

I would guess this could be one of the reasons there wasn't a whole lot of push back when Hart was offered/looking for another job.

Great post, and probably a lot of truth there.

Fair enough man, and I'm not trying to make a universal defense of JF.

Just pointing out that a comment that he is not a P5 back may be contradicted by what he's actually done on the field.

And again, it's not like we now have Leonard Fournette in the backfield. Like our kids' effort for sure. And Strick has improved without question.

But IMO, we could have used JF this year. Don't think that changes just because his HS coach is an egotistical douche.

Hart got a lot more money to go to Indiana. There was nothing that could have been done

Perhaps that coach should spend more time figuring out how to develop top flight talent.
