The Dome was empty...again. Where are the fans?

I'm not so sure of alot of things but he specifically brought up Hofstra. That's a bad loss no matter last year or this year or if we have the best roster or even the worse one in the history of Orange hoops. Good coaches don't lose that game ever and he knows this..

JB lost his share of buy in games. Most every coach has.

I'm late to the thread, but, fans just don't want to watch a revolving door of players. Maybe if you're
reloading top end talent, maybe, but call me foolish, I'd way rather watch teams where I got a chance
to root for the same guys for 3+ years. And I get that players all want to jump after money, and they
won't stay, so, yeah, that idealistic view is gone, unless I want to drop to low level D1 or to D2 and
watch that level. But it is pretty ridiculous that NIL has basically become free agent contracts that
have nothing to do with what the intent of the ruling was.

And just as examples, a tweet by KJScouting about Quadir ... SU spent time and money looking for
a PG who could go for 14/4/6 and shoot 59/54/76, and he was here. I have two more years watching
the kid who hit the game winner vs Miami? And the press conference afterwards? Cool. No, but I
got to watch Jaquan Carlos. And the football team loses its starting RB, or the TCU's starting QB, gets
the team into a bowl game, them bails before they play USC. Something wrong with NCAA athletics.
Kids and coaches want to go, fine, but finish the season, then leave.

It's hard to believe, but Wildhack has been at Syracuse for almost 10 years now and he will turn 68 next year.

He needs to look in the mirror and admit he made two risky hires in the two most important sports. Neither had head coaching experience when they were hired, so he had to know he was taking a risk. There is enough data on the Red hire to say it didn't work out and it is time for Wildhack to take action. As for Brown, the jury is still out. First year was great, but the second year was not, so year 3 is very important.
I have more faith in Fran then Red. But biggest concern with Fran is Nixon as OC, those last 8 games were all on him. His inability to come up with any type of offense scares me.
A good OC takes what he has and makes it work each year. Nixon got lucky with McCord at QB, and Allen at RB.
Both of them did all the little things to make the offense work.

Athletics future is tied to corporate and big alumni support. Does SU have enough of either to stay in the game for the long haul as the ante price escalates. I don't think they do but hope I'm wrong.
Winning championships requires that, making the tournament just requires a competent coach. Let’s focus on that and see the booster and sponsor problem solve itself

The dome should’ve been empty. When your coach admits to giving up on a season why should anyone show up?
I go to see the young talent in action. Personally, I’m not invested in the basketball team, but for football, I would attend games just to watch the young players develop. I also assume the tickets would be reasonably priced.

The Quadir situation has nothing to do with money, as far as I know he wasnt going to class at all

He was also not playing nearly as well as he is for NC State now. Even last year at McNeese he was not playing like a guy we would feel bad about letting go. It's a situation where I totally understand why we parted ways, even if he is cooking now. The handle in the lane and pg ability always had a high ceiling with Quadir. I have to believe these percentages from range will regress to the mean. The dude shot 17% from 3 through his first three seasons.

Good coaching can do some amazing things

Anyone who has spoken to John knows how much he wants to win. This is all very personal to him. He’s what you want. An AD who cares deeply about his Alma mater and wants to win. He also knows how important basketball is from a revenue perspective.
As you know, JW has said privately that the standard will be making the tournament this season. He publicly acknowledged that playing "meaningful games" at the end of the season = making the NCAA tournament during his recent interview with Steve Infanti. Red understands this. JW has now made it clear to the fans.

I fully expect that contingency plans are already in motion for a national search in the event that Red does not meet that standard.

My significant other keeps getting shocked when I’ll casually mention there’s a game going on (and we’ll be at the store, out to eat, etc.).

It legit makes her sad seeing me not care about something she knew meant so much to me for so long.
Same here brother. One of my favorite things to do was meet up with friends in manhattan for a late winter cuse game where the entire bar were cuse grads. It’s been a long time since that happened…

i would just say, the mercenary style of players chasing every dime is not helping the game
at all. it's way more interesting from a fan perspective to watch kids develop over time than
seeing a totally new or half new roster on a yearly basis. unless you're pulling a high end
team, and even then, you'd react like the guys in the start of Major League ... "Who are these
freakin' guys?" I'd way rather have had Quadir for four years to watch, than been McNeese
State fans. "We got Quadir ... well, we HAD him for a year anyway ... easy come, easy go."
And that's why fans just don't get interested. Combine that with a league that SU fans could
still take or leave in a second. If JW held a press conference Jan 1st and said, "that's it, we've
had enough. we're going back to the Big East for hoops", you'd get 5-10% of the fanbase
maybe would be sad. Nonconference games as the students leave, they've always been downers
for attendance. And while I'm at it, move the students back into the sideline section that they
roll over from the far end of the Dome, exile the silent fans who sit on their hands out of there,
and it'll be a more fun atmosphere.

The whole thing suks. Players are paid mercenaries. There is nothing collegial about it. Going to a game is an entertainment choice. It used to be life and death.

There used to be teams that ate and recreated together and were loyal to the school. Players knew that they were forever part of the family.

Next step is inevitable. Teams will be privatized.

Privatized how though? Will it just be a pro org that licenses a school name and rents the space? Will they lose their access to state funds? Will the athletic department maintain any control? Who are the buyers going to be when you’re locked into keeping a team in town? Pro sports is attractive because you can leverage moving the team to get tax and revenue benefits.

I don’t see how it can get privatized but I can see the rev driving sports getting self governance

Perhaps the schools would rent out their facilities and use of their name? Perhaps pro teams would buy in? As long as profit is to be made privatisation is a possibility.

Wildhack isn't dumb. Pretty sure this is a small wink and nod that the change will come should things end without a tournament appearance.
Unless Red starts changing the way this team plays, even if we make the tournament, it would be IN SPITE of Red, and simply because of the players.

Well I think many fans stayed away because of the weather
I went but my buddy’s road never got plowed out in time so I went solo

This was maybe a smaller crowd than normal for the first ACC game but definitely loud.
At least in my section 😀
