The great thing about this year

There is no pressure on us, don't have to worry about losing to a lower seed and being embarrassed, we are the underdogs this year, always wanted a chance to be in this spot.

This certainly is not par for the course, and indeed is a bit of an odd feeling. When people go through their brackets, I think this will be one of the better "upset" picks to avoid the chalk on. Vegas actually had us at a pick(even) and now as 1 point favorites!(which would have sounded hard to imagine, other than for a play in game).

It will be a weird feeling this early to have the announcers calling us underdogs or saying we had an upset win. SO excited!!!!!

I know exactly what you mean (and how you meant it)...but I'll take the other side (high seed high expectations) all day long! It would mean we were good. (And I am sure you would as well...just sayin').

Why oh why does Vegas want Mich St. to go out this early? Kinda reminds me of the way they tried to put roadblocks in the way of UNLV back in the day.

Do you mean the NCAA and not Vegas? Yeah, it seems like they screwed them on the #1 seed with Virginia, and then gave them the potential of a 2nd game with a team that can beat ANY team(including UNC) on any given day if their magic switch figures out how to stay on long enough. I know that If I were a fan of another team but had watched a decent amount of SU games, I'd want no part of them in the 2nd round. Good call, I have no idea why MSU is getting Boeheimed like that, but I REALLY hope we can oblige the NCAA's wishes!

I just think MSU got a little screwed with that draw. We shall see Cptain!!!

I agree! I just wish our team didn't have to be part of the screwing(and getting screwed as well, as they should have been a 1 seed). There are plenty of teams out there that deserve screwing, and if we win I dont want to be remembered as "The Screw", the way Bobby Hill was "The Stick"!

That being said, I think the NCAA might see SU as more dangerous than some of it's own fans!

I dont care what anybody says, once the ball is tipped and its Syracuse vs Dayton, I expect to win. If Cooney comes out and starts taking 25 foot bricks early in the clock, the wrath my TV will suffer at the mercy of my foot will not be any less severe than if we were a 1 seed vs a 16.

When's the last time we wore road unis for our first tournament game?

vs Western Kentucky in 1978

I'm just happy they made the tournament. I think this team has very much exceeded my expectations. When I first looked at the schedule I wasn't sure they would get 15 or 16 wins!

Can you imagine if they make it to the Sweet 16. That would be insanely awesome!!! But first we have to beat our NCAA nemesis Dayton. The A10 teams are pretty good. It's not going to be a cake walk. They really have to come out to play like it's do or die.

One of the most entertaining things about this season has been watching some of our fans jump off and back on the bandwagon, some of them doing so several times. Hope nobody hurts themselves.

I have a few bumps over here! :)

We weren't jumping off and back on the FANwagon, but surely you see what a roller coaster this season has been! If we didn't think we would make the tourney, does that make us bad fans? Explain your statement, or I shall have to challenge you to a duel - which you shall win!

Slightly disagree, if SU goes and gets blown out, highly unlikely but for sake of argument, or plays a really uncompetitive game that will be remembered if we are ever on the bubble again and were unlikely to get the benefit of the doubt. Best thing this team could do is beat Dayton and really play MSU tough showing that getting a bid was the right choice.

Just an observation. I'm not judging anyone's "fandom." I just find this place to be a great source of amusement and wonderment, between the gloom and doom threads and the pep rally threads, and everything in between.

I think the last three games Cooney and Malachi went 3 for 30 or something like that from 3-point range. When the team is shooting that badly and losing 5 of the last 6 you have to be a mindless zealot by not having a little introspection. Are you a Met fan too?

You do understand that it is often feast or famine when your offense is built around the 3-pointers, right? Perhaps we're due for a little feast now.

Completely disagree. Syracuse wasn't even one of the first 4. The committee basically validated our hard schedule and good wins.

The committee said beat good teams and you will get in. We have no pressure at all. Stanford got smoked by Louisville in 2007 when they undeservedly got in.

Crazy season. A badly flawed SU team that did very well considering those flaws. 3 shooting guards (Cooney, Richardson, and G) in the starting lineup and no true point guard. A center coming off 2 injury-plagued years and a SF (Lydon) backing him up. A PF with VERY limited shooting range. 3 Freshman in the top 7 players. Head coach banned for 9 games. Major props to Gbinije for an outstanding season. Props to Lydon who was put in a difficult position playing major minutes as a center. Props to Coleman for coming back from major knee injuries to become a force in the middle, although I'm worried about some of his shots denting the backboard. Cooney and Roberson? So inconsistent, Cooney more-so than Roberson.

Just because we criticize the team does not mean we have jumped off the bandwagon. Sometimes reality bites.

Good summary of a crazy year. In spite of all this, the defense has been pretty good and the offense has been brilliant at times.

I didn't think they would get in because there always seems to be bit of anti-Orange sentiment in the CBB ethos. Maybe I'm just a little paranoid or just sick of hearing the color commentary scream out in joy when our opponent makes a good play.
