The Official "Favorite Beer Thread"

Jesus I'm getting thirsty over here reading this thread. Couple more.

Jever. The best German pilsner by far

Old Thumper by the Ringwood Brewery in England. A superior product. They also make a blonde ale called Boondoggle which I thoroughly enjoyed at a pub in Edinburgh last year.

Do you have a twin brother named Lemongello?

I'll have to give these a try if I ever see them.

Okay. Here is a serious answer. First, let me say I think my beer is better than most anything you can get commercially, and I will sing the praises of homebrewing for many reasons, but primarily the fact you can make any flavor profile you can think of.

So my list of great beers is LOOOONG, and really the only beers I don't like are American Light Lagers, and some of the weird veggie-fruit-wheat girly beers (like Magic Hat #9 - for wussies)

Maredsous is my favorite non-hoppy beer, it is a true Dubbel made by monks.

The BEST, most delicious dark beer ever, is New Holland's Dragons Milk. Amazing.

I am a hophead, and I stole my sig line from Stone's Arrogant *******, and while it is good, their Old Guardian is infinately better.

So those are three good ones out there. Also, i'll try other styles if I am familiar with a brewery. Took a shot at a Three Floyds beer the other day and it was very good. Victory. Stone. Rougue. New Holland, etc. If they made it, it is very good.

I actively avoid any beer I know to be brewed by Bud/Miller/Coors (like that garbage Blue Moon)

Like March said, wheelhouse.

Got any homebrew details to share? Bottle or keg? Favorite recipes? Extract or mash?

Dude I am all for drinking crap ass beer. I actually endorse it someimes. Nothing wrong with picking up a sixer of PBR pounders. But Coors Light I cant stomach.
Agreed. I love cheap beers but just do not like Coors. Much rather have Bud Light, Blue Light, Rolling Rock, PBR, etc.

But to add something I didn't see anyone say, I'm a big fan of Anchor Steam Ale from San Fran.

The place I'm talking about is called The ChapterHouse, it's on Stewart Ave. I do know that place you're talking about though, definitely went there a few times.
Damn the Chapter house. What a place. I dont remember the name of the pinball machine there. Fire something if I remember correctly. Release the fire gods it use to scream out. I used to love to go there when I visited my Cornell buds.

Oh man, I totally remember playing that! I used to play a lot of Gallega there too! And the free bowls of popcorn...

Wow how did I miss this thread?

Tailgating we mostly stick to cans so:
Dale's Pale
Ten Fidy
Old Chub

Oskar Blues does some really great stuff.

Three Philosophers was my gateway beer and still enjoy it (remember simpler times when Guinness used to be a 'heavy" beer?). Favorite Middle Ages beer is probably Dragon Slayer, or Wailing Wench.

Some of my go to's not listed prior:
Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter
Unibroue Trois Pistoles
Victory Hop Wallop
Stone Ruination IPA
Southern Tier: Choklat, Jahva, or Mokah

Latest 2 exceptional brews that come to mind:
Tripel Karmeliet
Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock

Dales Pale Ale - Oskar Blues Grill & Brewery

Flower Power (IPA) - Ithaca Brewing Co.

Double Jack (Double IPA) - Firestone Walker Brewing Company

I have serious issues with IPA's. Anyone reccommend any other good IPA's?

Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA is quite hoppy and I would recommend. Couldn't put down more than 1 or 2 in a sitting though since it pretty much destroys your palate.

Oh man, where to start??? So many delicious beers out there J

If someone put a gun to my head and said I had to pick just one, I’d probably choose DogFishHead 90 Minute IPA. First time I ever had it, I didn’t know it was 9% alcohol and I drank a 4 pack of it, along with about 3 glasses of red wine. I did this while cooking dinner for my wife’s book club… my wife was, shall we say, mortified. I think Bayside’s wife was there to witness my drunken buffoonery (probably not the only time she’s seen that).

I love pretty much everything from DogFishHead. There is a tavern about 5 miles from my house and needless to say, my wife always drives home whenever we go there. Burton Baton is really good. They have a stout on tap now that is called Red&Black – 10.5% ABV, finished with a hint of raspberries and mint. I love it, although I can only drink one.

Lately I’ve been really into Lagunitis brewing company. I love their Lil ‘Sumpin’ Sumpin’ ale – it’s like a wheat/IPA hybrid, it’s awesome. So is their Maximus IPA, and their Censored Red. I’ve never had any of their darker offerings yet.

I really like Evolution IPA (#9). Very good. (I’m a big IPA fan if you can’t tell)

The thing about DFH 90 minute is you can keep drinking them. Bought my cousin a case for a wedding present and we ended up drinking half of it with some other stuff mixed in a few months later. Stout, 90, Quad, 90, porter, 90, etc, etc, etc. My wife and his went out that shopping that day and when they came home we were asleep with xbox (or wii?) remotes in hand slumped over. Their laughter woke us up and we went and got more beers.

Ive had Black & Red on tap and was exceptional especially for being so complex.

I've had Lagunita's stuff and it's alwyas good but nothing great. Usually they are a bit thin.

Is Evolution #9 Evolution Craft Brewey? I've had Evolution Lot#3 down in Maryland and it was very good. Dont believe I saw #9 from them though.

Give me anything Dogfish Head. (india Brown, Raison D'être, 60 or 90 minute, their specialties are also awesome if you want to spend 10 or 20 on a liter)

I also love Celebrator dopplebock.

I used to hate all fruity beers, but I surprisingy love the new flavors of Shocktop that have been coming out with.

Love St. Bernarus 12 always in the frig. You should try the St. Berarus christmas ale if you have not already, I think it is the best in there line

They do make a great Christmas Beer as does Corsendonk

yeah, Lagunitas IPA is really good (although I like Maximus and Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' even more). Founders Centennial I like too.

I've had Great Lakes a few times before - I go to Cleveland for work every once in awhile. They had a Pilsner that I liked (and I don't usually like Pilsners).

Lil'Sumpin is GREAT. I'm also a huge fan of their Lucky 13

Another great beer from southwest. Virginia, Doggie Style as in "the waitress always recommends Doggie Style".

Keep our minds off of Fab for a minute.

What are we washing our "dinner from last night" with?

Have a few days before game day, we've only lost 1 game and Georgetown still sucks. We are in a pretty good spot people.

So let me see. What is your favorite beer choice while watching a Syracuse sporting event?

I'll say Yuengling. Although some shotgunning of keystones during halftime is likely..

Two Brothers based here in Illi-noise

Surly Furious is on that list at #3. Surly is a Minneapolis brewery and only available here in midwest as far as I can tell and only comes in pint cans or kegs. Even better than the Furious is the seasonal Surly Abrasive, which is so hoppy and tasty. This thread got me motivated to try a few new beers, so just finished a Deschutes Hop Henge tall boy (Ok, not as hoppy as I like) and just popped a Lagunitas Hop Stoopid tall boy. Please disregard any of my moronic posts the rest of the night.

I have a sixer of Bell's Two Hearted at home right now. All my beer nerd friends rave about it. It's OK, but highly overrated IMO. I've had probably about 20 of the IPAs in this list and very few of them are amongst my favorite IPAs.

Totally agree, Two-Hearted way overrated, had it many times and doesn't even cross my mind to grab a sixer when I see it in a store. The Bell's Hopslam on the other hand...
