The one time we want Joe to have the ball

The bigger issue is that coming out of a timeout twice our offensive possessions were horrific. Mintz needs the ball in his hands but that turnover to Jessie then the off balance 3 with 2 seconds left are exactly what you don't want. I am sure we drew up something different but late game execution the last few years has been god awful. JB has to do a way better job practicing these situations

I think JB thought with 6 seconds left he could beat them down the court and lay it in or draw the foul.

Pitt overplayed that obvious possibility and we had no backup plan.

That stuff seems to happen too often.

Agreed but that has to be a conversation in the huddle if the drive isn't there were going to double screen for Copeland and Bell or were gonna put Taylor in to run for a 3 or keep driving and then stop for a mid range jumper or something. To many times after a timeout it looks like the team was discussing where JB was going to eat after the game versus drawing up a competent plan.

Judah was 2 for 6 from 3 tonight.

Bell was 0 for 5 from 3 tonight.

..and we want to complain about the kid who had 24-5-4-5 shooting a couple 3s?

uhhh..ok.

Mintz played very well but vs St. Johns and now tonight he's been less then stellar in late game situations. We have to do a much better job of giving him more options or making it clear that him pulling up for an off balance 3 with 2+ seconds on the clock isn't what were looking for.

Totally agree with that.

I disagree that he shouldn’t be shooting 3s at all. I think that’s a silly take.

He's going to have to take some, you can't have a PG in this day and age who never takes 3's. That said down 2 he should never be taking a 3 at the buzzer or near it unless he's beyond wide open and there's a second on the clock.

We’re all guilty of silly takes. I once knew a guy who tapped out of a game and missed an incredible comeback. :)

I tapped out of the thread, for sure, but I was watching in the back ground. I gave the the team credit for fighting back, but dont see where my take was silly.

we lost.
at home.
to Pitt.
without their best player.

After a very deliberate turnover Judah wanted to end it. I don’t blame him outside of a mid range shot he had nowhere to go.

If anything should’ve played hero ball the possession before.

The next to last possession we looked soooo unorganized. Cope and Jessie were confused and Judah telegraphed a pass that wasn’t there

That was the killer possession.
yea, second to last possession was the killer. Judah should have went to the basket on that or passed to Joe when the pass to Jesse wasn’t there. Even on the last possession he should have tried to get closer to the basket instead of pulling up for a 3. That was a hell of a comeback though.

Lol, Hughley has not been their best player this year. not even close.

Sooo agree!!!

Man, to lose to Pitt at home is bad enough. Plus, Dior Johnson suspended not even available, is the cherry on top.

Our late game execution has been miserable all year. Much different vibe if we pull this off plus Bryant and St. John’s. I know it’s a young team but that’s on the staff.
So wrong. It's the first X number of minutes of the first half that's the issue. How deep a hole should we dig before you expect miracles.

Pitt purposely doubled Mintz on last possession and he didn't have enough court awareness or nobody was open for a pass and jumper. I was at game and didn't see replay so not sure which it was.

I did notice the double on the inbound though. Smart defensive call by Pitt on last 2 possessions.

Also Jimmy blowing timeouts to yell at guys early in game costs us late when we need TO's.

This is exactly what I’d expect to hear from someone who had the game on in the background.

I have no problem with this loss. We battled back and had a chance to win the game. Proud of the effort. These kids will find themselves in a similar situation at some point this season…and come out on top.

I'm good with Mintz having the ball there, but he needs to take it to the hole, not take a contested 3. We were only down by 2.
Agreed.
Judah got us there.
Judah needed to finish it off.
Instead, he made some bad reads on the last two possessions. The one before when we had 16 seconds to execute was the killer.
Even the two Bills players were making jokes about how Jesse positioned himself to receive the ball.
Down 1, 16 seconds, I thought they would clear out for Judah, and let him try to draw one more foul.

Mintz is a huge reason we’re even in the game at the end. He hit some big big shots to get us there. I just wish at the end he recognized the double team and dropped it over to Copeland to his right. Cope would’ve had an unguarded look at the basket.

It’s better to make the right play/decision and lose than to make a bad play/decision and lose. Growth.
