The one time we want Joe to have the ball

Our guys played hard, but at the end the execution just wasn't there. Judah is a talent, but he needs some seasoning. It looked like some of the guys were getting frustrated with him in the second half. Too much hero ball in both halves.
Edwards for sure.

Totally agree with that.

I disagree that he shouldn’t be shooting 3s at all. I think that’s a silly take.
Agree. He’s not a bad shooter at all. He gets WIDE OPEN looks. He thinks about it too much and sort of loads it up. Too much bend in the knee. Just let it fly!

I’ll say again… why not have someone else in the back court? Even with 6 seconds, you’d like to have the guy catch the ball as far down court as possible.
I was so confused by Pitt having two guys defending down there and our entire play was just telling Mintz to try to beat a double team down the court and get a good shot.

Equally confused that with the game on the line the prior possession, we tried to post Jesse up when Pitt had shut it down the entire half. Just really stupid coaching. We made things as hard as possible on Judah.

Joe bringing the ball up the court would not have been a great idea against ball pressure. Judah needed to get better penetration. The design was for a kick out to a shooter.
Well, that would be predictable because we only have one shooter and Pitt wasn’t going to let Joe get it.

The one negative about having Brown in the game is the defense isn’t going to guard him outside of the paint. If you look at the replay on stolen pass you see Browns guy come over to help on Jesse immediately.

Great observation. A fake pass to Jesse and Brown had a layup. That’s tough to ask two freshman.

Taylor was in, too, if memory serves.
Nope. He came in for Edwards after he fouled out. The 5 guys in the game were Girard, Mintz, Edwards, Brown, and Copeland.

How so? How hard is it for Judah to recognize the play is covered and find the open man? There was a backup plan on the Jesse play which was cycle it back out to the forwards and reset, he forced it in for no reason.

I was talking about the last second play rather than the 2nd to last play. The 2nd to last play was supposed to be a post touch for Jesse, which I’m on board with there. Judah just telegraphed the hell out of it like I would do as the backup PG in 8th grade on my way to 12 turnovers.

There was no reason for Edwards to clog the lane up. Damn near the entire comeback was predicated on rolling the ball down the court, having Judah scoop it up, and quickly get downhill. Then with the game on the line we put Edwards in the middle of the driving lane, which ultimately brought multiple defenders right in front of Judah. There was no good reason for it, particularly with how little success we had posting Edwards up in the 2nd half.

In that last play of the game, I would have my best ball handler, Symir bring up the ball and either penetrate or dish. Joe's ball handling is horrible and he would be covered tight as the expectation would be he'd take a jump shot. Judah... well we saw what happened.

If you’re talking about the next to last play where Judahs pass got stolen, that’s not what happened. When Judah got to about the top of the key, Jesse wasn’t in the lane and in fact the lane was open if Judah had wanted to just drive past his man and get into the lane. The problem when he tried to pass it to Edwards was brown was in the game and positioned foul line extended and his defender completely ignored him and was able to float and stole the pass.

That play was way too forecasted. Judah still made a bad pass, but that play was a horrible call.

Not exonerating Judah. He has to be better, period.

The missed dunk was a 4 point turnaround. Lay the efffing ball in the basket
It was a loss of 2 point. No way to know if Pitt would or would not have scored on the next possession.

It was basically the equivalent of a football team having success running it down their throat for an entire half when the coach decides to get cute on 3rd and goal from the two and decides to run a fade route in the end zone from the shotgun to a double covered star receiver.

It was stolen because the entire pass was slow and at this level slow passes get stolen. He waited a split second too long.

Yea it was a split second too slow but Jesse had his man on his hip and he was open for the bounce pass easily. Problem was the guy playing centerfield. Wonder what that defender would have done if bell or Taylor were in there. Not sure he would have completely ignore them like he did brown.

I rewatched the last play. I’ll keep repeating this… why did we not have someone else in the backcourt to help get Judah downhill? Pretty obvious they were going to double him. Even if you had Joe inbound it they wouldn’t be able to double so hard because it’s a much more obvious pass back to him then to Copeland.

Idk… I hated the last two possessions last night and still do.

Thought the next to last possession was half right half wrong. Judah has to have the ball not Girard. Judah needs to take it hard to the hole like he forced it all game. If Jessie's guy or Girard's guy help, dump it off to Jessie for the bunny or Girard for the 3. If neither guy helps off than try to make the shot and Jessie and Brown crash the boards hard.
Mintz too much hero ball overall, but on this play his hero ball should have been encouraged.

lol. Good point. The way it bounced all the way down for an easy score for them is not Judah's fault. But it was no doubt some bad fortune
