really dont see Tomlin wanting to go out on the recruiting trail. Maybe he does it like BB where he just tries to use his name to get it done.

I think Big Ben’s comment was strategic to see how this would play..but it seems like it went over like a lead balloon. If it got huge excitement, maybe it’s possible PSU could have convinced him to leave the NFL. It did not happen. I’d be shocked if Tomlin ends up with Penn State now.

I didn’t realize PSU interviewed Chesney and thought it went well, but dragged their feet so long he now has bad feelings about it and moved on to UCLA anyway. That might prove to be the biggest screw-up by Penn State in this whole mess.
 
Looks like they are onto ISU coach Matt Campbell. Which wouldn't be horrible but hardly the splash they were looking to make

One of their problems now is anyone they go after knows they were viewed as a 2nd or 3rd tier candidate initially. That’s not great when a coach knows a high-pressure school is “settling” for you.

Very good chance the contract is going to be absurd money for whoever takes the job - whoever it is will want a boatload of guaranteed money (beyond the absurd amounts that are already “normal”).

Agree, and given how publicly disastrous this search has gone, Campbell has all the leverage to ask for a boatload of cash. Probably more than they want to pay.

I think they could have just gone with Terry Smith, but after waiting this long, Kraft knows how bad that's going to look.

It's what the players want, but I guess you can't let the inmates run the asylum. Penn State was 3-3 and played hard under Smith. 1 point loss @ Iowa, 3 point loss home to Indiana. Played Ohio State tough for a half in Columbus and then an Iowa State-Syracuse basketball game broke out. Beat the crap out of Nebraska. Probably should have lost to Rutgers, but didn't.

They got "THEIR" guy! :)

I do think he's a very good coach and will do well there. He can definitely coach
 
Curious why people think he's a good choice? Don't know much about him at all but I see his coaching record and Iowa consistently is a team that flames out.
