The Penn St Dumpster Fire Thread

after over thinking this there is NO WAY Fran is leaving for Ped St!! Period point blank !!! The only place i would be concerned about is that hole Called Buttgers and there is no way that armpit school is giving away 23 million dollars for free!!! Wildhack is gonna sure this sooner then we think everyone...

I've discussed this before, but taking at face value that Fran is a northeastern football guy, then I am concered about both Penn State [only blue chip program in the NE] and Rutgers [a joke, but the flagship D1 program in his home state].

I think the timing is misaligned for him to be a top candidate for PSU. Which is good for us.

Agree. I think that when the next PSU coach is fired, then he would be a good candidate if Syracuse is doing well.

Of course, if he leaves during/after 2 years, then he is a mercenary-type coach and good riddance. And, in this era, mercenary coaches bring their best players and recruits with them... so it's not like you leave the program in good shape. No remotely-wise blue blood program will be taking him right now either. So it would be just a stepping stone job... like Rhule has done with Temple, Baylor, Nebraska, etc. Leaving Syracuse to go to Maryland or Rutgers or Arkansas for that matter cannot be about winning championships. Penn State is at least about winning championships.

However, if a guy puts us on the map for 5-6 years, and gets an opportunity to go to a blueblood or something close to it (Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, etc.)... then like Dick Mac, we wish him well. At that point, we would have some stronger legs to stand on our own and get ourselves a coach to maintain the momentum. And one can understand that perhaps our ceiling just is not high enough to win championships. Few programs really are.

Ped St is going to go BIG!! I am talking Saben out of retirement kinda BIG! You don’t toss out 50 million to go after the fawn when you really want the monster Buck!!

Agreed. Thank God. I can’t handle another Shafer-like reversion.

Saban has a thriving AirB&B business going, why would he throw that away to get back in to coaching?
I used Saban more of a reference to “BIG” All i am saying is 50 million to get rid of a proven coach to go after a 2nd year coach makes no sense!! Don’t get me wrong I want Fran here! I am glad ‘Cuse has him!! Just can’t see Ped going after essentially a rookie over a proven coach!

I get that, but it's where I differ. When I'm already making millions to make a few more million a year, with the trade off being that I uproot my family and enter an inferno of stress it's just not worth it to me. We've made those same decisions in our lives with common folk salaries. Wasn't worth switching schools on my kids.
For some folks, it’s the rebuild that provides the juice, as much if not more than coaching itself.

So Franklin has to, in good faith, look for another coaching or broadcast position and Penn State would than have to pay the difference between his salary and the buy out? If Fran really wanted to stick it to Penn State, hire Franklin as an “Offensive quality control” coach for $1.
I know people love these type of things but I highly doubt any of this is that simple. I am sure there is language in there for exactly this type of stuff. Guys would go to work for Saban because well after a year or two with Coach Saban a once failed head coach is once again an in demand commodity.

This is what's crazy to me about the firing. Going to be hard to replace Franklins success. 6 ten win seasons. 4 eleven win seasons and last years 13-3 playoff run. 104-45

Sometimes it time to part ways but good luck finding a guy who's going to win more. Since 2022
11-2 rose
10-3 peach
13-3 playoff
3-3

How patient will they be? Couldn't happen to a better program.
Yep and it's actually more likely that their new coach under performs than exceeding what Franklin did (as not many coaches have during his tenure). That will make me happy - screw Perv St.

Anyone checking enterprise rent a car to see who is renting near pedo state?

Jimbo Fisher had no restrictions in his contract. Just saying.

I think Nick Saban is done coaching. He has indicated several times that he doesn't like what college football is becoming (portal, NIL, super conferences). He is a purist who would recruit and keep players for 4 years. For him, any program other than 'Bama would be a step backwards.

Yep, Saban liked when they could pay players under the table but now, everyone can do it. I get it. Much more difficult.

I used Saban name for a colossal scale of BIG. not saying Saban is coming back I am saying BIG!!! plus I do not think Ped St pisses on 50 mil without knowing who they want and possibly already agreed on.. Other then that why not just wait for 6 more weeks?

Outside of Urban, Stoops, and maybe Rhule no one would commit to Penn State while they are still coaching.

Agree that mostly because of how it was phrased, this was a dumb question. However, I also agree that HCFB fumbled the answer. Imho, a simple "No, as I stated previously, I'm here to stay", would've sufficed.
Honestly, methinks he doth protest too much.
